“Talks fell through” = LSU wouldn’t match on the same day

So because they wouldn't counter the Miami offer he really wasn't a priority?
I don't like the portal/NIL recruiting era. But the schools have, or should have, a pretty good idea of what the players and their reps (quite often including family) are about. Whether or not money is THE driving factors. Some kids have left bigger offers on the table because the school they actually wanted to attend was at least competitive.
Don't put offers on the table without an agreement. And contrary to outdated pre-NIL doctrine of "he or she hasn't signed yet" quite often they have. Collectives and shoe companies etc can pay these kids before the colleges formally can. With conditions like no more official visits.
Late "flips" have actually gone down.
Now a kid asking out of their LOI or whatever they call it now because of a coaching change can happen. But as extreme as Michigan's situation was those high dollar recruits held fast until they finally hired a HC.

“Talks fell through” confirms there never was really a commitment. The kid left open all negotiations. “Commitment” really is only recognition of a current leader in bidding….
