Do we get them all and convert 1 to LB?

Berry and Simon seem to be elite RBs. Would really like to land both but it seems Simon is really enjoying the recruiting game. Going to Texas soon.

Lindsey may not be in the elite category but he a stud right now and a great addition to the class.

Ford is the most likely to me to be converted to a LB. Which in the grand scheme of things if you’re good enough to do it why wouldn’t you. RBs make. O money in the league and have a short career for the most parts.

Simon is a 100% a take if we wants in and we want him badly.

I think we take 3 since we only took one last year

Josh Williams is in his last year
Kaleb Jackson probably goes pro after his jr year
Holly status still unknown
Durham comes in the fall

You still gonna need some depth at that position

Berry and Lindsay are in the class as commits

I think they would add a portal RB before another HS kid unless he’s a highly coveted

I don’t think the kid from Opelousas has a committable offer

Yea I would agree. I’m hoping he does end up at lsu. Would be a haul. And everyone would stay fresh.

In 1992 LSU signed 5 running backs:

Robert Davis
Jay Johnson
Artie Moore
Robert Toomer
David Butler

Butler had some success as a DB, but the other 4 were basically busts.

He’s an elite pass catcher and blocker. Finishes run, has speed, tough. He will be a great Tigah.

Roster limit was set at 95 and before that in the 80's it was set at 105.

It was 85 in 1992 and 95 in 1978.

It was also much more strict, with way fewer transfers and hard limits of 25 signees per year.

At one time, Jay Johnson had the SEC record for a true freshman ypc.

As for Toomer:
Robert Toomer finished up at Worth County in 1991 as the state's all-time leading rusher (7,841 yards). That broke Herschel Walker's record. Toomer's 105 touchdowns also were a state record.

Toomer played at LSU, declined CFL offers and went into coaching. He's now head football coach and athletics director of Royal High in Brookshire, Texas.

He and Butler both finished at LSU. Toomer has been coaching high school in both La and Tx.

Man I really think Ford is going to be a really good college football player if he’ll switch to lb and concentrate on that for a year or two. He’s an impressive athlete with rare strength and speed.

Send Devin White to talk to Deshaun Ford and Josh Brantley at Ruston.
Those 2 can be absolute stud LB’s at the next level.

Neither of those guys are like Devin white. Ford is stiff but probably better suited to play RB. You can scheme him offensively but you can’t sceme around limitations on defense

Why would we do this when we could just recruit a LB? Just because devin white was a RB once upon a time doesn't mean it's a good team-building strategy to recruit RBs to play LB.

If you're a mid- or lower-tier P5 team for whom bluechip recruits are largely inaccessible and you have to hang your hat on scouting and long-term development (e.g. a program like wisconsin or iowa or iowa state), then maybe this would be a viable strategy on occasion, but when you're LSU and the #1 recruiting class in the country is a realistic goal, it makes way more sense to just recruit really good LBs.

In the past three classes (2024, 2023, 2022), we've signed a total of five 4* LBs and one 5* LB. We have two more 4* LBs committed in the 2025 class. Our LB recruiting has been well above the level at which you start realistically thinking about signing an extra RB to beef up the LB room.

To be fair; I think this crop of in state RBs have more of an athlete profile then RB.

James Simon & Nate Sheppard are the best pure runners & not sure LSU will get either. The other guys are a bit unnatural as ball carriers & prototypical SEC backs. That’s not a slight; you just need more of plan to involve them
