Of course they do. Coaches rely on their own evaluations of players.
They don’t give one shite about some arbitrary star-rating that the recruiting websites assign to a player.

Yea. Dom McKinley and Gooden have been rather disappointing this year after what we had been hearing about them in fall practice. But then again they were going up against the worst Oline in LSU history. So now I see why they are disappointing.

Before anybody gets their panties in a wad, this is a clear indicator that his big bro is leaving LSU. If you want to ask me how I know, well I don't. However, this has been the exact same thing that has happened multiple times recently and possibly right now.

I don’t believe Dom really wanted to be here anyway. But we definitely have to stop all these LEAKS in the roster. all our 5 stars are leaving and forcing us to the transfer portal. Derrick Williams (Texas), Lance Heard (Tennessee). Blaine Bradford (OSU) Dom McKinley (maybe OSU). Wardell Mack (Texas) Jakeem Steward (USC). NIL should help us keep these guys but all the leaks have to stop I hope the new coach could patch it up and stop leaning on backups in the transfer portal.

I'd be nervous too with Lamar Brown, Big Rich, Deuce and possibly Berrymon coming in. Not to mention the Mathis and other freshman Brown have been getting snaps.
9 tackles ain't a whole lot of output. He still plays too high and he had motor concerns coming out of high school. Maybe he isn't being developed who knows, but I'm not losing sleep over it.
