A buzzy name on the Atlantic Coast is Virginia Tech’s Mansoor Delane, who the Hokies will have to hold onto as a who’s-who of college football programs are likely to circle. Delane was a 247Sports True Freshman All-American in 2022 and is a future early NFL Draft selection.

How does this pertain to LSU, you might ask?

Well, Mansoor’s younger brother is the No. 1 ranked safety prospect in the country for the 2025 class and visited LSU in October, his last campus visit

Get Gordon on the horn and drop the bag

This is why you can't afford to be "too patient" with coaching moves.

Could Insert Duece Chestnut name anywhere in here and it be identical to last year. I will be forever skeptical until i see it on the field in purple and gold. We need to do alot better at talent evaluations on the defensive side of the ball.

Many of you have a comic belief that position coaches are the ones that recruit their players. Short on defensive linemen? The DL coach must be a poor recruiter. That’s just not the case.

Then why follow recruiting?

Ummm... there is a slight difference here:

Mansoor Delane: 6'1" 185lbs

Duce Chestnut: nowhere near his listed 5'11" height, 205 lbs

Delane is more the size you need at CB, while Chestnut was just unable to counter his lack of size.

Chestnut would have made a great slot corner at LSU or safety, but we used undersized Sage Ryan there.

But in the end, it won't matter unless LSU gets a better scheme, and in particular gets players that fit schemes.

Saints fans still have nightmares about Jason David, a purely zone cover CB being brought into a man scheme. At LSU it is that opposite. They bring in man corners to try and run a zone scheme

Sage is also listed at 5' 11" 205 and if he isn't 5' 11", he is pretty darn close.

Chestnut was very small but also didn’t have great speed. What he developed his reputation on was instincts and anticipation, but when the talent level rises, there is only so far you can go without speed or size.
