quote:his speed is legit, and he is really good in coverage out of the LB position, only time will tell how that would translate to safety.
high school claimed speeds are always correct. And speed alone doesn't make someone able to play DB. If you are not natural in coverage, you are going to be lost going into college as a DB. There's a reason nobody recruits high school linebackers to play DB.
I watched him play in 4 games this year, and I want him on our team regardless of position. he is the real deal

confirmed recruited as a LB

Last week, I was giving him props & trying to find out how we let Pelini get him: LINK
quote:
Have you seen "Debo's" footage on Rivals? It's spectacular.
He's a heat-seeking missle. Every tackle seems to be behind the line, and he's doing it from the LB position (not DE like most of our LB prospects). Dude recognizes the ball carrier, fills the gap with speed and de-cleats them. Kid looks instinctive, quickly changes direction, & always makes the tackle, usually behind the line.
Add in the fact that he just turned 17 which means he'll still be 17 starting his frosh semester in college, with room to put on muscle.
He's 6-2, 210 LB with 4.4 speed according to Rivals, but yet they have him as a 2*, while 247 & ESPN have him as a 3*. Scout is the only one to list him as a 4*, which looks the most accurate to me, albeit I have only seen him on highlight reels.
Highlights don't tell the whole story (see Jeff Luc), so what am I missing that has caused most coaches & scouts to slow-play him? And why did we let Pelini get him?
Here's one soph highlight (as a 15 year old) at Jesuit on You Tube, and it looks similar to the multiple Rivals highlights as a junior & senior: LINK

with these last 5 spots, i'm assuming 3 go to Landon, a qb, an OOS dlineman.
the other 2 come from deval, phillips, perkins and debo jones.
throw in J hill, possibly at the expense of bourque or someone else who ends up not signing. can we still grayshirt with the new rules?

Shea put some film out on him today. He looks pretty good on tape.

and he actually plays linebacker rather than projecting 210 lb high school defensive ends like almost all the other guys.

He is a beast and a presence on the basketball court as well. Very unpolished, but is an enforcer in the middle despite being undersized and raw.
Teams are pulling up on the break if he's downcourt. He's also pushing around some of the giants from local NOLA high schools.
He's definitely going to play LB

Just got off the phone with Nebraska LB commit Deion Jones. Not going to be surprised in the least if the Jesuit star is at #LSU before NSD

Speaking of Sandolph....i have read absolutely nothing about him in the paper, Same with the guy from East Jefferson.
I couldn't find season stats but..
Article on Sandolph from Sept. 29th
From his coach..
quote:
"He's the total package: He's got speed, he's physical, got good ball skills and he can hit," Valdin said.
quote:
"He may not have the offers that other guys get, because LSU came in real early," Valdin said. "They came in the first week of spring and offered him and he took it."
Film from last year
looks like a good athlete...
Hahnville's Final Game
quote:
Hahnville's only points came on a Jerqwinick Sandolph kickoff return to start the game and a 3-yard run by Ernest Thompson in the final minutes of the fourth quarter.
It was an 80yd return
Player of the week(Oct. 27)
quote:
Hahnville senior safety Jerqwinick Sandolph led the Tiger defense to a big win against Higgins by recording 8 tackles and an interception for Hahnville in their 25-8 victory.

I've seen him play against Brother Martin, Rummel, and East St. John. He was easily the best player on the field for each game. After watching him play, I assumed he was 190 lbs or less because the way he moved, he'd be a four star if he was over 200 lbs. I read on here that he's 6'-2" and 210 lbs. If that's true this guy will be a hell of a ball player.
Against ESJ he picked up the slot receiver on a deep post. It was textbook technique as he effortlessly maintained inside position and turned for the ball at about the five yard line. With the receiver behind him the ball had to pass 6" from his Debo's chest. He must not have seen it because he never touched it, and the receiver made a gorgeous diving catch for the TD. Everything about the play - coverage, technique, route, throw, catch - was big league except the part about breaking up the pass.

Um are you really suggesting he will get no bigger in college?

Clean says he's a 4 star so you must blee dat... I trust Clean's evaluation over Rivals.

I'd like to see Jones commit. He's really fundamentally sound (takes good angles and actually wraps up), and he's well above-average in terms of sideline-to-sideline pursuit. His play reminds me a lot of Rennie Curran although he's already a couple of inches taller. I know he's being recruited as an OLB, but I think he could grow into the MLB position.
