NOLA.com is reporting that it's the back levee canals on the east side of the parish that are flooded. Mainly the Braithwaite area. So far the west side is dry from the surge, however reports are that the surge is growing with the change in wind direction on the west side.

I haven't talked to anybody in Buras. I just spoke to someone in belle Chasse just below the high school and there was no flooding at that location.

Just talked to a friend in Buras (text) no levee breaches or anything but lots of wind damage and some flooding secondary to rain.

This is what i know from Plaquemines the levee breach was in braithwaite, from Braithwait to White Ditch is undre about 10-12 ft of water. No water in Belle Chasse wind is humping i lost lights at about 1:00/1:30. The water came up to about two feet from top of levee per fil who stayed in Empire. Will try to joy ride and take pics of Belle Chasse when possible. Got worried about 3:00 or so, house was shaking.

Not nearly as bad as it was around 3:00, winds have switched more to the west from the north

my wife's family lives about 1 block from that picture. they are safe in Uptown NOLA, but I'm sorry to see that about their house. prayers for all of those that live in Braithwaite.

Belle Chasse should come out of this in pretty good shape other than losing power and minor damage...

I'm honestly beginning to wonder if we would be better off to let the levee go below St. Bernard and let the river flood naturally to rebuild those wetlands...would it be cheaper just to buy the people out who live in the east bank of Plaqueminse Parish?

There can def. be a strong argument for this idea. There is just no way that area down there can be protected any longer, especially with marshland disappearing.

This was a pretty weak hurricane.

Just posting what I been hearing like everyone else is in this thread. Some of it will pan out, some wont. Nature of the beast when communication is disrupted.
