Caribbean Cruise recommendations
Posted by LSUisLIFE6 on 9/29/14 at 3:36 pm
My gf and I are looking to get away this spring, so we decided that a cruise would be a pretty fun idea. Looking for western Caribbean/Mexico/Jamaica mostly. Ideally shipping out somewhere within 4-5 hours driving distance.
Any recommendations?

Bumping an old thread. If you missed out on Culture you can catch me playing at The Library (formally Northgate Tavern) Saturday from around 10-11. Come out and have a few drinks.

WTF is this shite. If you could beat match it would literally take you less than 20 seconds to match any song you have.
Stop fricking using Sync and learn how to do DJ. As for crafting a better set, sounds like you are just making a playlist.
Yeah, making a playlist. All I am doing :banghead:
Do you drive an automatic transmission? Why not learn to drive and actually take a manual everywhere? This comment is stupid and I hate hearing it. Just because I CAN do it doesn't mean I have to in order to be a "real dj".
Regardless, I don't juggle bpms too much. Not that I stay the same, but lets say I want to go from 140 to 87. I look for a 140 song that gets quite after the first drop, fade in song 2, switch lows over, and boom. No beat matching or sync button needed.
I couldn't give less of a shite about what you think. If the crowd enjoys it then that is all that matters, so frick off.

Who runs the place now? Is it still Olu?
I am not sure. I know it got bought by someone else than the original owner. His name eludes me though.

I'm more into deep and tech house. IDM stuff. Some nu disco. More soul moving music.
There is really a genre I don't enjoy, but of course I have favorites.

After you press play on your mix at the shows do you:
A. Stand around and throw a single fist up, while the other hand is used for surfing Facebook?
B. Jump around and get into it like Skrillex?
C. Go take a quick leak and take a piss?
Can you send a shout out to 337guy during your set? thx
Crafting a set meaning I know what song I want to play next, and when to transition. I still do every transition live.
I get very much into my mix. I go as hard as anyone on the dancefloor does ;)

If you are stuck on an island but can have one album what would it be?
shite. That is a hard one to say. EDM wise, no one released albums anymore. So, I will have to say either Parallax 2 or Colors by Between the Buried and Me. While being a progressive metal band which many of yall may not like, they are the most talented musicians I have ever seen and heard.

For real though, try to get a gig at the library at Northgate. They let smaller artists do their things sometime either inside or on the porch in back.
Eduk8 holds an open mic there every Monday. I may start being a regular there.

Biggest inspiration?
There are a lot of producers I admire. Too many to name. Excision and gramatik are up there. Though wildly different styles, they each have a really unique show. Both are extremely talented.
quote:My two friends are very good up and coming producers. Their names are Eduk8, who is playing with me tomorrow, and Klutch. Eduk8 is my producing mentor of sort, and is extremely good at making shite in Ableton. Klutch has a tendency of crafting a set which is so good that it is hard for the headliner to compare
Favorite local artist? (Flowtribe doesn't count)
quote:Up to this point they have been pretty small. You have to work your way up the chain. Eventually people will notice. I have only been in this a few months, but have been dreaming about it for years. Dreams come true if you work your arse off to make it happen. I put 24 hours or so of time crafting this set and making it to my liking. I do hopefully have bigger things in the future which I can't talk about yet =)
Biggest crowd you've played for and where?

Not sure I understand. Clarify and I am more than happy to answer

What kind of food/drink do you require backstage? Interesting pre-show rituals?
One drink to take the jitters away. No matter how well you preplan the set, and have every transition down, you still get nervous.
I listen to Lose Yourself by Eminem a few times and not eat any of my moms spaghetti

Any crazy fan stories?
None yet. Although, if you know any crazy females who will make some, bring them along tomorrow.

BR or NO?
I am in BR, but (possibly) have a show in laffy coming up. Also, I have good friends who put on events in NOLA, mainly Republic, who will hopefully have me on there in the coming months. They bring big artists. I play where there is a gig. Venue size doesn't mean shite. I just want to play good music and get the crowd into it.

If you are asking about the mixes, the numbers just indicate the newest ones. I try to do a podcast like show. Half of it is me, the other half is a guest mix by another artist. The first one is by EVO, who is a mid level house producer who tours all across the country. The second is a friend of mine from nola who is a great dj and producer. The third is a mix I made for a competition to play at Buku. I didn't win, however I knew I wouldn't. It is a popularity contest and I don't have the name recognition yet.
I do try to make each mix better than the last.

My friends set will include more trance, house, etc. Mine is trap and dub (real hard and filthy dub). Excision the past weekend inspired the last 40 of my set. It is brutal.

Do you use traktor or serato? Do you sync? What kind of controller do you use? Just curious
I use Traktor software and hardware (s2 mk2).
While I can beatmatch by ear, I do use sync.I can use the time I save crafting a better set for my audience =)
