If the eyewall speed is 80 mph and the eye wall is over grand isle and Venice. Why are these stations reporting much lower speeds?

what you see on radar might not be the "official" eye wall

some sites have buoy's that show the speed when the wall passes

So are you trying to say that the buoys, rigs, and aircraft are all reporting bad wind speeds?

It's a conspiracy

They have been saying forever that this is because of the size of the windfield, the same shite happened with Ike. Pressure is low enough to be a higher Cat storm but the energy it takes to support such a large windfield is what keeps the top speeds low.

I don't think TWC would miss out on reporting higher speeds

This storm has a very expansive wind field and had a lot trouble closing off the eye wall. It also couldn't sustain intense convection and all that worked against winds mixing down. It isn't hard to believe the pressure to wind ratio for it. However, the structure has really improved and winds are probably mixing down rather rapidly in the intense convection this evening.

Agreed. Especially not with the way this blizzard is forming around the eye.

It needs to just head on north. I really don't want to be inconvenienced this week.

They use that data but they won't upgrade a borderline system based on it. There are certainly questions about the calibration of a buoy. I think they could have upgraded sooner and I am sure there were some very "interesting" conversations at NHC today.
