I am planning on sodding around April when my pool build is hopefully finished. I've been trying to decide what to sod with. I'm really liking the Zeon Zoysia. It looks to be a hearty grass that people won't mind walking on barefoot if they are chasing down a volleyball. It looks to be a very good looking grass as well. Anyone have any experience with it?

Yes. It’s phenomenal. Feels amazing on your feet. Thick grass with thin blades. If you have 4+ hours of sunlight, it will do well. Honestly IMO it’s the best grass you can buy. Feels like the most expensive as well

I grow 140 acres of it here in Ga. Love It!
If I could just sell that I would! Best all around grass on the market today!

Can you provide tips on how you grow it? I am assuming commercially. It’s a slow grower so what do you do to accelerate growth? Any sort of special fertilizer you like? Things to avoid? I’d love to hear any tips

Yeah that's where I'll likely get it. Hate that it's $225/pallet but sounds like it's worth the extra money.

Not really. I just cut 11 mature trees just in my back yard. Opened it up a ton.

It does pretty good in the sun, it just dries out fast. My dad has it. I'm wide open, no trees, so I went with celebration.

I live on a little less than an acre and I still have 12-15 big trees in my back yard alone so I think it will do fine for me.

$225 a pallet? For Zeon? I’m paying $400+ and that’s from multiple different suppliers with about 4-500 sq feet per pallet

If you are putting in a pool and have full sun I’d do tif419 or tif sport. Foot traffic will damage your zoysia.

LINK / $450 a pallet

LINK $370 a pallet.

$225 is perhaps a lower grade? Perhaps cheap Zeon is a Louisiana thing

To add to your debate, I sodded geo last spring and I love it. Splurged on it because a lot of the yard is shaded most of the day and only get 3-4 hours top of direct sun. It’s absolutely lived up to the shade tolerance hype and it feels super soft. Plus I love a fine blade grass.

Geo is the newer variety and it is fantastic. Again though, I'd consider foot/dog traffic before installing it.

Which Zoysia does best in shade?

I need that.
