Feed it just enough with a complete fertilizer and a little extra nitrogen.

Growing it on a production scale is pretty intensive. Fertilizer about every 3 weeks during growing season, pre-emerge 3 times a yr, irrigation about every day.
In a homeowner yard it doesn’t take all that. Water as needed, 10-10-10 once or twice. You would have to dethatch if too much Fert. Pre-emerge is the most effective weed control. Post control for some weeds in zoysia is difficult!
