Currently building. Almost finished framing. Wish it was roofed in already to help with all the rain we got today, but what ya gonna do...anyway we're going with Germantown brick, thick white grout line and a heavy sack finish.

I can't stand white painted brick. Don't paint brick and if you do be more creative than white

All I know is that for years building scientists always preached against painted brick.
agreed. Not sure why everyone in this thread is ok with lowering the quality of their homes.

There are some hideous bricks out there... In some cases, painting them is a plus for sure.

Yeah, there are. I really prefer darker colors over white though for most styles.

Half my bricks are completely different because of hurricane reconstruction. So I had to paint. 50 year old house and it looks better than ever, tons of compliments. I used Romabio, mineral based paint designed for brick, basically bonds to the brick without primer. Matte finish. It looks awesome, and they have been using something similar for thousands of years, so the trend does have some staying power.

A neighbor did a lime wash on his bricks and it turned out really good. It costs a bit more money, and I personally wouldn't attempt to DIY the lime wash. I am probably further into DIY than at least 90% on this board also. They had a whole crew out there working and it seemed like a process that could turn out really good or really bad if you don't know what you're doing. But this is another option out there if you don't particularly want to paint a house.

Painted exteriors are abundant in the UK. To me the only weird homes are the pink ones.

I think it looks good depending on the architecture of the house.

This is the house I just bought and pictures from a few years ago before the old owners lime washed it.

This is it now.

I don't mind the old picture, but the new looks better IMO. It was done very well.

That's a lot of landscaping.

How long ago did you do it?

Two years ago this month, with similar weather (100% humidity, horrible painting weather). Had a helper 1 day but otherwise did it over the course of 3-4 days.

I used this stuff on my house about 4 years ago. We were meticulous in its application and did two coats. It does not stay clean in areas with moisture.

I find it scuffs fairly easily, but touching up looks just fine. Otherwise it seems to be holding up well, I actually still have a large sealed bucket that I would like to do a full repaint with (will just dilute it a good bit to ensure 1 coat coverage). Overall I’m pretty happy with the results and found it to be very DIY friendly which saved me like $10k, which at the time was very welcomed since it was the end of a huge project rebuilding.

We used the masonry flat product, not lime wash. Lime wash inside holding up fine, looks awesome but was a lot of work to get the right patina.

Yeah I’m not really sure I thought that through

I’ve got to get on that soon.

the fugly mustard yellow trim might have something to do with the old photo being less than appealing.
