I honestly don't know. I've never done it or heard of anyone doing it. Give it a shot and report back.

Just to be clear, I should apply pre-emergent right now then wait for the first green to scalp or is it too late to apply pre-emergent?

So, I decided to cut my celebration yard down to 1.5” which is the lowest setting my ZTR can go. Last year I maintained cut around 2.25” and haven’t cut since 2020. Let me tell you I was quite surprised the amount of clippings that were created. I cut late yesterday afternoon. So today I took my push mower and cut it in two directions to try and bag as much as I could. I emptied the bag 30 times. Needless to say my sodded area is only 10k sqft... the other 65k square feet i didn’t have as many clippings. Talk about a pain!

what pre emergent should i use if i have horrible weeds?
i want to try something different this time.

i've been trying weed and feed bonus S, but it seems like it makes the weeds worse.

i applied twice last year and once the year before and seem to have only made the weeds 10x worse

First rule of lawn is no weed and feed products. Pre em, post em, and fertilizers should be done separate. Right now the only thing you need to apply is prodiamine or dimension. Spot treat the weeds with the Clegg's cocktail that Craw posts.

Spot treat

my whole back yard is the "spot" and i hate it because it wasn't like that before the weed and feed. i'll look up the cleggs cocktail.

thanks for the recommendation

I live in a rural area. I don't make a first mowing until mid April to allow clover and flowering weeds to grow enough for bees coming out of hibernation.
It's great for the garden to have healthy bees.

You should see a night a day difference in about a week.

ETA: As far as dead weeds.

that'd be great. what comes after the pre emergent? should i lay down a fertilizer? also i just cut my grass monday for the first time this season and i have no way of picking up the clippings unless i rake and honestly i aint got time for raking.

ETA: sorry for hijacking the thread. this will be my last post on his topic

Too early to fertilize. The grass needs to start to green up on its own. 50-75% green up is a good time to fertilize.

The developer of my neighborhood is doing work on the 3rd phase. As soon has my bermuda breaks dormancy I’m scalping and going to load up several wheelbarrows of dirt they had brought in to level the new phase. I can’t wait.

They are finishing up the last few houses in our hood. I miss those big beautiful piles of masonry sand.

Scalp all grass types the same? Centipede, St. Aug, Zoysia, etc.?

Centipede and St Aug I would go one notch lower than normal. True scalping isn't good for those grasses. Zoysia and bermuda are as low as it can go without hitting dirt.

I guess I should have said that in my previous posts. A lot of times if a grass type isn't mentioned then I go off of what I do for my lawn.

Yeah those grasses prefer a higher cut.

You sure you should do it on Zoysia?

Yup. Zoysia/Bermuda low. St aug/centipede lower than normal. I’ll try to distinguish between grass types going forward.
