I want to drive thru parts of town with lots of trees and snag your bags of leaves to put on top of my garden as a weed block. My trees have started dropping a few but just curious on when I should target the hoods with a bunch of trees?

Thinking Hundred Oaks area for this familiar with BR

If I bag leaves, it is usually in February or so if I recall.

After they’ve all fallen and we’ve had a hard freeze or two. The leaves protect the grass so when I do rake them, my yard is one of the only green one’s around.

Live oaks drop year round, but the big drop is around February. Every leaf is replaced over the course of a few weeks.

Man, if you want pine needles, there's a house on Chippenham that has a layer of needles across the entire yard. You could probably knock on the door and ask if you could rake and bag them as a favor and get yourself plenty. Win Win.

I don't rake or bag, have a yard vacuum and a compost pile.

Never, we're basically on top of a hill at an intersection and the leaves just magically go elsewhere.

I've never understood the chore of bagging leaves.
Leaves mulched is such a good compost

About 2 weeks ago. We're getting a few inches of snow this weekend.

I had always heard that you don’t want to do that. You want the grass to go gradually dormant and not let the leaves act as a blanket. A good freeze damages the grass if it’s not dormant yet. Not saying it’s true…just what I heard and it kinda made sense.

A few years ago, I didn’t bag until the spring. When I finally did, I discovered that the leaves had kept the moisture trapped and rotted quite a bit of my grass. Since that time I mulch once every two or three weeks in the fall to keep that from happening.

As for where to get some leaves, just stop to ask any lawn maintenance dude where he’ll be working the next day and he’ll be glad to fix you up!

My dad does this. There's two homes that he got permission to rake and now the folks living there call him when there's a lot.
