Found this online but can't find a name for it.

I've got about 350' (seriously) of backyard fence to line and I've decided against clumping bamboo I'm pretty sure.

Good call hombre

Those could be italian cypress. I have arborvitae that look similar and I love the privacy they provide. Can't wait for them to grow a few more feet though.

While I'd love the bamboo and have enough yard for it to "roll over" and not take up too much yard space I think it's just gonna be a pain in the arse to upkeep.

Stumbled on that pic and the Italian Cypress is really looking good. Thanks for the ID!

I'm going to be doing something similar but I think I'm going with something a little smaller like the emerald green arborvitae.

Love Italian cypress. Had a old backyard ringed in them for look and privacy. Last time drove by the old house new owners had cut them all at the fence line, which I’m pretty sure means they’ll never grow any taller.

How many do you think you'll need for 350'???

Yeah I wasn't going to bring that up, but those trees, if you buy them at, say, 6-8 ft, are not that cheap. And you'll have to buy a crap ton.

I think my aborvitae's were 7ft and $200 each. I bought 5 to put between my and my neighbor's house. $1,000 for a privacy screen that will take 10 years to really be mature.

Those 5 trees covered about 20 ft (with gaps between for growth).

Fwiw :: last year that super freeze in katy texas took a lot of theses out… but it was darn cold for a few days..
Have seen people use dwarf magnolias for what you are describing also..

Not going to say with absolute certainty but I’m pretty certain those are arborvitae trees.

We have several of them.

I purchased my emerald green arborvitaes from Home Depot and Lowes for roughly $50 each. They were all at least 6’ tall, and all of them took so I was happy with that. In all I purchased 15 of them. I’m in Ohio so maybe the prices are different here. The local nurseries have them from around $79-$119 for 6-7’.

Spartan junipers look very similar and have less issues typically

Could be Italian cypress but they are generally more narrow and taller than those in your pic. There are several varieties of juniper such as "spartan" and "hetzi" that are columnar so it could be one of those. Italian cypress are finicky and have several pests and diseases that attack them so can be tough to keep them looking good for more than a few years. Take a look at Taylor juniper which is a columnar variety of eastern red cedar and more hardy than italian cypress.

Clumping bamboo is literally zero upkeep. If you want to shape the clump you literally step on the new shoots coming up. They all tend to come over a few week period so it is not like you have to do it all year.

Measured it out today. Every 4’ - about 80 of them. There’s a couple spots I’ll skip.
