That’s either a young man’s game there or let it cool down a tad. I bought twenty 2 cu ft bags of a raised bed garden soil and about the same in Pavestone play sand (that’s some nice sand). I about had a stroke putting that stuff out yesterday. I hauled it around in a wheelbarrow and filled potholes and uneven spots. I raked it in with a big wide push broom. It was nice looking when done. I didn’t put it down too deep and will probably have to add more in a few weeks. I swept it in with that wide push broom where you could see the grass leaves sticking above that dirt sand mixture. I'd love to buy that stuff already premixed and have them dump it on my driveway, but I’m not certain when I can find quality dirt like that around here. As sore as my back is I might hire someone to professionally do it the next go around. I’m not allergic to work out in the yard, but that heat and humidity kicked my butt.

I came here to post the exact same question. Is this site listening to my thoughts?

River sand is the worst option. Never do river sand. You’ll welcome torpedo grass into your lawn. Mason sand is the only thing you’ll want to use.

Always leave the plugs. Don’t pick them up.

I don't want to put back what I just pulled out back in. as I have one side of my yard compacted, if I could find someone local to sell screened compost and sand mix that's what I would use.

Dealing with this right now. Had sand brought in 2 years ago to one side of my front yard to level it out. Its now full of torpedo grass. i'm so mad

This is what I've always been told but beware when you go to cut it after. It was like a fricking Iraqi dust storm in my yard. It all drifted to my neighbor's house across the street. He said he thought his house was on fire. I stopped and lightly watered it but all that did was turn it into a clumpy mess in my mower.

IDK if it's been mentioned but Woerner Turf & Landscape supply will sell a half yard of masons sand. I think it was around $25 when I got it there last year.

Yep, that’s where I go. Just back up my truck and they load it right in. Drive home slow and pray my suspension holds

I get rid of the plugs because at my house they’re pure clay. I worked my arse off getting them out, I hated to see ‘‘em go right back.
Top dressed with some topsoil and compost

Woerner’s no longer does a half yard. The local branch is annoyed. Sounds like the parent office took their basket away. It’s annoying because a yard of sand is technically too much for a typical sized truck
