I'm trying to clear out underbrush in a wooded area. Lots of vines, prickles, and small scrub trees.

What brad is best? Is it better to buy new or used? What size? Thanks!

how much area? I hired a guy with a skid steer and forestry mulcher and he was done with 2AC in a few hours. Amazing results

How much ole boy charged for those 2 acres to be cleared? I may need something like that done soon.

400 bucks for the day.
well worth it…there is no way I could have done it as well. plus it leaves a thick mulch layer on the ground

I've used the green one several times from Home Depot rental and it's worked really well. Can't think of name.

I think it was billy goat after checking their site.

That's a great price. A lot of those guys ate in the $1500 day range.

$50/hr?? That’s hard to believe. That guy must not be in it to turn a profit.

Used a Billy Goat from HD a few times and it worked well assuming its not super thick. If it is then get someone with a skid steer mulcher.

Had an old heavy-duty DR field and brush mower with a Kawasaki engine, it was rough but it never quit even in thick brush and pine saplings. If you can handle the smaller trees with a chainsaw then a 26" to 30" DR would be fine if you want to buy something new for yourself. I wouldn't get a used one unless you can do significant repair/maintenance work yourself or know a reputable dealer in your area.

Damn, I didn't realize they rented those. There's one at my local store. Good idea for when I'm getting ready for deer season in the fall.

I had an issue where I could get any of my tractors in to clear about half an acre

Rented a walk behind bushhog. Did half.

Paid a guy with a smaller tractor to do it the next day.

I did this last weekend. There is an empty lot next to me but it is cleared.

Clumps of grass and scrub trees up to about 5' tall.

Rented from Home Depot- the Billy Goat brand wasn't available but they had another brand. The guy at HD told me to wait until the Billy Goat came back in because this brand was super slow. I only had that day available so I took the slow one.

Holy shite that thing CRAWLED. Took me twice as long as I had planned but it did a great job. Mowed down brush and saplings with no problem. Had a few trees about 2" in diameter and it didn't miss a beat.

Bottom line- rent from Home Depot but make sure they have the Billy Goat brand, not Bluebird. They are both 26" cut. I paid $160 for a 24 hour rental.
