Just a repair or the whole fence?

Not for a few years. Is it cedar?
If so, oil stain it whenever. If not, either wait until it is grey then oil stain or just use sealer asap.
Actually not even sure if wood does turn grey in BR. Y’all have a lot more moisture than us. Maybe it turns green. That’d be bad.

Whole fence
paint it or install a sealer/stain
you’ll get a few years out of it at least

Nah…as the others said let it age until the fall and then hit it with a coat or two of semi-solid or solid deck stain.

With untreated, there is no reason to let it age. He needs to soak the shite out of it now and repeat once a year.
Treated lumber needs to dry out before spraying with water seal.
OP, how did this happen?

I've built some outdoor crap out of scrap untreated wood before. Seal the shite out of it and it will last longer than you think.
Not as long as treated, but you'll get a bit out of it.

5 gallons diesel
2 gallons burnt motor oil
1 pint red oild based paint
1 pint brown oil based paint
Filter oil and spray on with garden sprayer. Fence will be protected and look great for years.

I tried a couple gallons of a very similar cocktail and it was a little too smelly for my tastes but it did soak into old cedar really well. I don’t think anything oil based will soak into newer 2x4 unless it is cedar. Even if spruce/pine/fir is aged to gray, oil is a tricky option.

You talking about fence posts, cross bracing and wooden fence boards----the entire fence build out of untreated wood. Please tell me you at least used metal fence posts to do this since that will be one less thing that needs replacing in a few years time.
Best you can to is to seal the wood as best you can and make sure the bottom of the fence boards stay off the ground so they can't absorb moisture and rot even faster.

Yes, unless you’re in Alaska or Canada.

It needs to be dry, but it definitely soaks in. It's been used for years, works great. Only smells for a short time.

its a screw up but I'd still send it and see how long it lasts. Put some oil sealer on it and try to soak as much in the end-grains as possible.
Update in a few years when it starts to rot.
