Too late to dig up and plant some Zoysia plugs?

I have Zoysia in my front yard and want to use it to slowly take over the St.Aug in my back yard that struggles terribly. Too late to dig up and plant some plugs? Do I have to wait until next Spring?

The key is sunlight. Days are getting shorter. I would wait for Spring if you are talking about anything more than 100sq ft

I have Empire zoysia that abuts common St. Aug and it’s basically a standoff, with the St Aug slowly encroaching on the zoysia. I would describe it as a sunny area.
In areas Where They’ve intermingled, the zoysia is below and the st aug is above and both appear to be thriving.
I sure wish I could get the zoysia to take over. Maybe if I’d mow shorter it would favor the zoysia.
Just my opinion, Go ahead and plant the plugs now. They won’t send out many runners this year like they will next year because they spend their energy on root growth initially.

Cut low and often. You won’t hurt the zoysia on your mowers lowest setting. You’ll just make it angry and grow faster.
Yes you can plug some zoysia now and it will be fine. Come back in April and cut low and plug some more if you want.

That’s exactly it.
Cut the zoysia low and the SA will lose.
The opposite is true if you cut it at over ~3”.

Yep...my zoysia creeping into my neighbors SA yard after years of me cutting my zoysia lower than his.
I have a question though....I've had zoysia for 20 years I've been in my home. I scalped it this spring early (which i do every few years) and it looked the best its looked in a long time But this year after the dreadful August/September summer, some of the brown spots didn't turn back green. Is it dead? Is it bugs/disease? Most of it bounced right back after some water, except for a couple spots right in the middle of the yard.

I use a 2 in 1 hose end spray with fungicide and insecticide every 45 days and it takes care of both preemptively you can pick it up at Home Depot,

Cover half what it says as far as sf if you already have bad fungus or pest issues the hit it every 30-45 days preventatively during the growing season at the sf listed.
