Thoughts on the Tara Subdivision??

I figured I would get more serious answers on this board.
I love that side of town, and I'd rather buy an older all brick house on a huge lot and renovate.
It seems like this area is slowly turning back over to younger people buying and renovating, much like Kenilworth over the past few years.
Is the area relatively safe? I know the high school is right there, but I don't know much about it. TIA

Tara seems to be a great area still. Seems like if you were to buy an old house and renovate, you could easy get your money back out in the future.

You have kids? If so, plan on sending them to a private school.

Yep. Value is still there for a renovation and lot sizes are great.

Yeah. Great thing about Tara is there's plenty of older, retired people so the neighborhood is active throughout the day still. Very convenient to pretty much everything in town. Neighborhood has police patrol and cameras with license plate readers at every entrance/exit to the subdivision now, as well...largely overkill but it seems like the criminal element is aware of this and stays away.

Check out Westminster if you like the area and that side of town. Great neighborhood. Unlike Tara, there are no cuts through the neighborhood to get someone else like Tara (Chevelle, Tara, etc). If you're coming into WPP, you have a reason to be there. Only 4 ways in and 4 ways out of the neighborhood.

This.
I have a buddy doing it right now.

Tara has its own crime prevention district and has cameras with license plate readers at all ingress/egress points.
The older folks are passing or going into homes a lot more so more homes are becoming available because of this. Can’t beat the location.
Eta... just saw Golfer beat me to it.

I appreciate all the great info.
Should I worry about the high school being right there? That's about the only negative thing I've heard from friends about the neighborhood.

I don’t live near the HS so I can’t comment. But I’m not sure what their issues are.
ETA: I think the only complaint has been the few that drive to school speeding on one of the side streets on that side of the boulevard...but the police patrol put a stop to that once they knew about it.

I live on the outskirts of Tara (technically not in Tara but the streets are all connected). We really like the area, I wish my street personally had sidewalks but the rest of Tara does.
The only crime we have noticed in the 5+ years of living there and paying attention to Nextdoor was one guy breaking into cars one morning. But like 10 people had camera footage of him even if it wasn't their house.
I don't live my the boulevard so can't really comment on the HS being there but its not like the kids going to Tara loiter around the neighborhood after school.

Yes, you're on the right side of Airline Hwy in Tara.

Solid neighborhood. The school does suck but the kids that go there don’t live in the neighborhood. Seems like a lot of young families are starting to buy and renovate homes in the older BR neighborhoods. Kenilworth, Tara, Westminster, and even Broadmoor to a certain extent.

Man, a lot of Tara/Goodwood posters on here. We should have friendly get together and Golfer host . To the OP, I live in "Goodwood Villa", between Tara and Goodwood. We are about to start the process of a redo on our house, its either spending 100k here and being happy or an additional 200k to be somewhere else and not be in the house we want to be in. On my street in 10 years we had 1 break in right after "Entergy" cut the trees, no threat during the flood, no fear during the protest, during power outages there are plenty of places to grab food and ice that will always be open, and during horrific traffic in BR, if you know the back roads it doesnt take more than 15min to get anywhere unless its on the complete other side of town. The only downfall where I live is the LaSalle school pick up lines when Im trying to get home at 3pm. Best of luck to you and would enjoy another family come in and do a remodel its happening all over here between tara to broussard
