I'd have enough water to last the summer after this morning.

I got the wife on board by selling it as emergency water to flush toilets. Those stories from the freeze in Texas are helping.

Don’t tell her you’re supposed to drain them for a freeze.

My wife is on board. She’s been wanting us to get one or two. I just have so much other crap on the list we just haven’t gotten around to it. So I’ll be interested to hear if anyone has some tips and/or recommendations as well.

This is where I am. I even have a blue barrel, a bulkhead and have the downspout cut to fit. That is where construction has stopped. 4 months ago.
I still want to put a submersible pump, screen and overflow device on it. The plan is to put a valve in to route the water through my drip system. Possibly a water level shutoff to keep from running the pump dry. POSSIBLY I am way overthinking it again.

Oh man you have thought this out way more than me. I just wanted a barrel with a spigot at the bottom and an overflow that allowed it to go back into the gutter.

If it’s drip gravity will work it fine. Put it up on conderblocks

Anybody got a good source for bat houses? We have about an acre pond with woods coming to the edge on half.

Walked the garden after our first little league game in 2 years. Peppers and tomatoes survived the storm. Got 0.6 in of rain but lots of wind and some tiny hail. Potatoes, corn, squash, beans, edamame, and kale are up. Time to do some weeding too!

Also, about to go pick up some of the Fish Fertilizer tonight and try that this week.

FYI watch out using the fish fertilizer with animals around. I had to put a fence around my garden because the dogs dug some of the vegetables up after using the fish fertilizer.

Just google, also they are small so don’t need much space. I mixed together a few plans and made this, but my boards are likely spaced too far apart. They are still in there though.

Damn - why don’t my photos show up?

If any of y’all have citrus, check out Urban Farms’ apples and oranges liquid fertilizer. I started using their Texas Tomato Food fertilizer in the past couple years for my vegetables and really convenient (1 tbsp/gal) and effective. The citrus fertilizer has made a big difference in the health of my potted lemon plant. It’s low NPK and technically organic, though I don’t think it is OMRI listed, so I’m able to water the plant with it pretty often. I don’t use it with my satsuma in the ground as much but will use it whenever I think about it.

This is the stuff:

I got mine from St Gabriel Hardware, and it's mounted on a 20' pole 10' from my pond. The bats stay there from spring until most of the summer, and are a lot of fun watching them at dusk destroy the mosquitos!

I caught about 8 in a week. Haven’t seen a squirrel in my yard since. Now, I know some more will move in. But at least for now I’ve slowed them down.

Keep up the good fight.

Y'all baws need to invest in a mini-schnauzer. Mine gives them hell. Ole boy will chase squirrels until his legs give out.

I used to have a couple of outside cats. Them suckers were the best pest control I ever had. Anything that hit the ground in our back yard was in mortal danger. They would constantly leave us presents by the back door. I’ll never forget one time my wife walked out the backdoor barefoot and stepped on a big mouse head. Talk about freaked her out.

Man I miss those cats. Rest In Peace Daisy and Baby.

As soon as I can get my yard fenced in, I’ll be wanting a dog.
