Just curious what your watering schedule is programmed for the young plants as i struggled to get it dialed in early last year. I find its easier later in the plants life.

I don’t have mine on an automatic timer. I water as needed. If it rains enough I don’t water. If we go through a hot and dry spell I’ll water every 2 or 3 days. I just run the hose out to the garden and connect it to the irrigation.

ETA: holy autocorrect fail, Batman!

I have a feeling that with it being my first year using a mulch in my vegetable garden i will have to get used to using a lot less water. Full sun from morning till about 3pm then some late shade. I like my timer and would really like it if i were more competent with how much to water. I leave it hooked up but will use the “rain delay” feature when it rains and/or the ground has enough moisture.

Just some perspective because soil composition is different, but I run my irrigation every other day on my raised beds during the summer and that's only if it hasn't rained in awhile. The soil retains a lot of moisture, and I'd imagine the harder ground beneath the raised bed soil retains even more.

The tomatoes in grow bags get watered once every day when the plants are small, then twice a day when they are full size and it's June/July and hot.

I'm not sure of my problem here. Am I over watering? My peppers are not doing good at all, horrible in fact, and my tomatoes are doing "ok". Squash and Zucchini are doing good though.

Few things:
Haven't tested my soil

Only fertilizer added is 10/10/10 in one bed, and I bought some soil for another bed that had Trip 13)

So no fertilizer added yet other than that

Could the cooler weather have something to do with it?

Also, about to go pick up some of the Fish Fertilizer tonight and try that this week.

How long have those plants been in the ground and where did the plants come from?

It is difficult to tell from the photos, but if the new growth on the peppers is kind of shriveled up and looks deformed, then overwatering is a possibility. If the new growth looks normal but is just very small, I think they are doing fine and probably just stunted by the recent cold weather we had. My peppers have not grown much since I put them in the ground and they generally don't really take off until we get consistent 75+ degree days.

Peppers are actually very low maintenance and when I first started growing them, I killed a few by trying to take care of them too much. They do not need a lot of water. I would say my peppers get about half the amount of water my tomatoes do and I normally only water my potted peppers when they wilt a bit. In my experience peppers honestly do best with a bit of neglect except for pest problems (particularly aphids for me). Maybe cut back on the watering a bit but I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I think your tomatoes look fine.

I bought them from local feed store, 3/7 they were put in the ground. Yea I believe you're right, I've been messing with them too much, and watering everyday. I will cut down big time on the watering. Thank you!

I think they'll be fine. If you look at the photo of my peppers I posted on the previous page, look at the bottom left. Those plants came from the feed store. The rest are seed starts from my grow lights at home. Huge difference between the two which is probably due to a combination of (a) an earlier start by mine and (b) better growing conditions. I put my pepper plants in the ground a couple of weeks ago and I think I've watered them once since plant out. All soils have different compositions though. I have watered my tomatoes probably 4-5 times.

eta: I'm also in Covington so you and I are similarly situated as far as rain and whatnot. I don't plan to water my plants for the rest of the week considering the rain it looks like we're about to get.

Thanks. Used cedar. They’re very easy to build, I’ll find the YouTube link.

Anyone use rain barrels to water their garden? Any tips for installation?
