String Trimmer/Edger recommendation. - Brand? Battery/Gas? Stand Alone or Combination?

In the market for a new sidewalk edger. My 20 year old walk behind edger finally died. I have a string trimmer that will probably last another year.
What’s recommended?
Typical residential setup. Do I go with top of the line string trimmer and use it? Echo or Stihl power head with attachments? Battery or gasoline?

I have battery and gas. ego and echo. The only benefit of battery is I can use the blower indoors or in my inside patio no fumes. I grab the gas weed eater every time instead of the Ego. Buy a can of trufuel or whatever and it's foolproof.

I have a 40 volt Ryobi walk behind edger. This will be the 4th summer and it does the job. I get a new blade every 2 years.

I have 60V Greenworks string trimmer and haven't met anything yet it can't handle. No gas engine fuss.

I have Echo gas trimmer and gas edger, two seperate units.

I have an Echo SRM 225 gas trimmer with a 2 stroke engine that is easy starting and adding line is a snap.
I've had this one for 3 years and have done nothing to it but keep putting gas in it, adding string and making quick work of the trimming.
I do only use non-ethanol gas in all my lawn and gas powered equipment.

Dewalt. All my cordless is yellow and batteries work for all. There maybe some that are a little better but for residential dewalt is fine. The hedge trimmer is great, blower ok and small chainsaw is good too

I have a battery powered ryobi set and like then. Went w Ryobi only because I already had a handful of their tools/batteries
Had a combo, and was not impressed w it’s edging abilities, especially for the first edge of the year. Now have a separate edger w blade and will never look back

I have the Stihl KombiSystem . It is one of those systems where you can use one engine and change the head. First pull and great power. I have the trimmer, chainsaw pruner and the blower. The Stihl is solid.

40 volt Greenworks for all yard tools here, I maintain a one acre lot, and have no trouble doing it, never going back to gas powered. If my zero turn was not fairly new I would be Getty one of the battery powered zero turns. Will neve buy a EV car, but yard work is me application where battery power works really well.

I replaced a 20+ year old Echo weed eater with an Ego. I love the power, ease of use, and reliability of the Ego. But, the head is at a flatter angle and spins the opposite direction of the Echo, and it took me almost a full season to get used to that.
The Echo is easier to handle if you intend to turn it upside down and use it as an edger. The Ego is really good for trimming wider areas and up against vertical surfaces.
I'm probably going to replace my walk-behind blade edger with an Ego stick edger this year. My old edger turns 30 this year. It's a work horse once it gets going, but is just getting unbearable to start.
In terms of overall ease of use for a house in a subdivision, I highly recommend Ego.

I also have the Kombi. I actually bought two heads(got the most powerful head recently). Excellent quality & lots of power. I have the string trimmer, pole saw and hedger attachments.

Have had a Kombi for years. String trimmer, edger, brush cutter, pole chain saw and hedge trimmer attachments. Was my primary tool when I started a small lawn care business, now my backup and it never fails me.

Stihl Kombi powerheads with any of the numerous Kombi attachments available are top of the line and can't be beat.
