2nd time I have to cut them down in January. I weed eated the hell out of them with the hopes of finding a weed killer that won’t wreak havoc on the rest of my yard
Any tips?

I gave up and just accepted I'll have clover in my yard.

I was in same spot last yr at this time.
Following this board's advice, I applied pre-emergent last yr in mid-Feb and then again in mid/late Sept. This winter I've noticed a significant decrease in clovers and overall weeds in general.

Poa Annual is killing me. I try to be organic but I'm about to go dirty. I tested 24D and Roundup on a patch and I think it spread faster. Any suggestions?

What is bad about poa annua?
It seems to be the one thing my scotts preemergent doesn't work on. But it just looks like grass and the bermuda takes it over swiftly when it gets warm, so im not sure why it frustrates so many.

Me too. Clover flowers, the bees love it, and it’s gone by the time the weather heats up and the grass needs regular mowing,

Pretty good results with 24D?
I just don’t want the surrounding area to get killed

Cutting clover might make it come back stronger. I went through the same thing. Start adding a fertilizer with nitrogen and it should get rid of it. It thrives on low nitrogen soil.

Fertilome Weed-Free-Zone seems to work well for me for controlling clover - it contains 2,4D and three other herbicides. Always add surfactant (spreader sticker) in the solution. Safe to use on southern lawn grasses - St Aug, Centipede, Bermudagrass, Zoysia.
I just plant perennials to attract bees and seems like I remove the clover flowers when cutting grass anyway.

Try Atrazine with a surfactant added. Might have to hit it twice.
ETA: if you don’t have a Bermudagrass lawn.

I’d rather have clover. It’s a pollinator and adds nitrogen to the soil. It’s also great compost.

Do excessive clover/other winter weeds smother out turf grass?

That's a good question especially given that my lawn and plantings beds are all native Dallas prairie plants. I guess the POA is a lot more widespread this winter and mostly in my planting beds. I will reconsider, thanks for asking that question.

I got rid of my Bermuda. Don’t have to worry about it now that I’ve moved but my place back home I only had native plants except for some fruit trees. I greatly reduced the mowable area and planted more pollinator beds and plants for birds and hummingbirds. Living landscape is a great book if interested. Author has another book called Bringing Nature Home. If you ever have an opportunity to hear him speak it’s worth it.

Yep, better clover than oxalis----which is in my large vegetable garden in the back yard and in the beds of the flowering plants in the front.
That shite is virtually impossible to get rid of once it takes hold.

I'll give anything a try since I've been fighting oxalis for over 3 years.

When you start spraying consistently you will not have clovers at all. Use a pre emergent every three months. Spray post emergent like Celsius, Certainty, MSM turf through the year. I promise you the following season will be better

Poa kicked my arse last year and the yard (Bermuda) looked terrible. It lasted a while too till the mid summer heat killed it. Luckily it's easy to pick by hand but it takes forever. Do pre emergents take care of it?
