We’re remodeling our master bathroom room and having a custom shower built. My wife and I have gone back and forth over whether we want a shower bench built in the shower. I’m looking for some opinions on whether we should have the bench or not. Some of you may have some thoughts that I haven’t thought about.

A full bench is a waste in my opinion but a little corner bench is practical for the wife to throw her leg up and shave or store some bath products.

Here’s mine after we remodeled

We have the step as well. I can’t see any use for a bench other than to put stuff on. I would never see myself sitting down.

If you have the space, sure, why not? If you don’t have the space then just do the corner.

We’ve thought about that but, she’s thinking it would be a waste of space. She has said a few times “When was the last time you sat down to take a shower?” I get what she means but my come back is I might sit down if I had a place to sit. She wants to buy a portable stool made out of teak wood in case she ever wants to use it. The shower will be 6X3 or 4X4 depending on whether we are able to move a toilet.

Not sure what you age is, but my grandparents like to sit and shower. I know because I worked with them on finding a portable bench.

Tile benches are usually cold though, so a portable wood, plastic, etc would be preferred. With the size you are talking, I don’t think I’d put a permanent bench unless you already know you want it and use it. Because that’s a lot of real estate for that size shower.

Just get a teak one, I’ve had one for 4yrs and we love it.

Our previous shower (that we rebuilt) had a bench but it was a waste and the corners were impossible to keep clean.

They are a pain to keep clean, if you don’t dry after every shower it will mildew quickly. Get a portable teak one and you can use and then let dry and store.

I sit every time I’m in the shower. Nothing like just letting the hot water pour over you. I might be the loan ranger, but I vote for the bench.

We love ours.
Tired and dont wanna do anything, sit in shower
Hungover and gotta take it slow, sit in shower
Sex, thanks for all the new positions and comfort
Want to wash or use a pumice stone on your feet? Sit in shower
Leg placement for shaving legs (wife) use bench

It is a lot easier to keep clean than you think as well

The older you get, the more sense it makes. Love my full bench. Turning 60 this week.

We had a built in bench in our old shower, when we remodeled we bought a teak bench like this.

If the bench is high enough, it will be the best decision both of you have ever made.

We went with no bench and bought a bamboo one from Amazon. We love it. And I also like the fact I can take it out if I want.

My wife wanted one when we did our shower and I didn't. I thought it would take up too much room, so we compromised and bought a teak wood bench for her side. She no longer has the wood bench.

ETA: shower size of 7.5 ft x 3.5 ft.

She just didn't use it as much as she thought she would.
