Purchasing new washer/dryer questions

Purchased our house over a year ago and the old washer/dryer came with. After some other more important updates, we’ve decided to dive in and get a new washer/dryer set.
We’re not looking for anything fancy. Thinking around $800-$900 an appliance (or around that range but can go higher if need be). Prefer top load for the washer. And something that can take a larger load (that’s what she said) since we have multiple sets of King sized bedding/comforters. And we need electric not gas.
Any particular companies we should stay away from?
We were looking at these today (Lowes is having an appliance sale BTW).

It will be a cold day in hell before I buy another top load HE washer. They are inferior in every way to both agitating washers and front loaders. If you want HE, get a front loader. If you want old school, buy one with an agitator.

I don't know what I'm missing with laundry machines, but that's the last appliance I would care to buy. My old shite cleans my clothes. If all I needed was to wash a big comforter or 2, I'd go to the coin laundry a couple times a year and save thousands

If they are still working keep them. Sooner you buy the sooner you’ll replace them.
Also, I have a Maytag similar to the one you have that we got a couple years ago. Currently replacing the lid for the 2nd time. Fortunately lid replacement #2 was covered by warranty because it was less than 6 months after we bought the lid.

wife threw out my grass cutting shoes because they were 'old and green'.
if your water-level controllable mechanical switch agitator top loader is doing its job, you best leave it alone.

Absolutely get a washing machine with an agitator.
We have that dryer. The lint trap sucks and underwear and clothes tags get caught between the drum and the frame and get all twisted up sometimes. It happens often enough to be a design flaw and an issue. Maytag makes a bigger dryer with a much bigger lint trap that has a different design. Look at that one instead.

I have a Maytag that looks like that but I think it's a Bravos. Not sure if it's the same or different. Best washer I have owned. I would put your money into the washer and get a cheap dryer.

We have a slightly smaller version of that washer, purchased in July, 2020. My only complaint is that it occasionally stops me from doing a load of wash with a code that tells me the machine needs to go through a cycle to clean the washer with Affresh. Maybe it really does need to be cleaned, but I find myself agitated when I have to remove the clothes I just put in to run it through an hour long cycle. Plus, I don’t actually own any Affresh, so it’s just hot water running.

NOT LG or Samsung.
My wife bought an LG washer. Biggest piece of crap. Very thin metal all around and we are on our second replacement display (she did get the extended warranty). Too many settings on this one and she rarely uses anything but "Normal Wash".
When this one goes out, I'm getting a Speedqueen.

Per Napoleons advice I literally picked up a 2004 super capacity plus washer and dryer someone put out on their curb for trash and bought a $5 set of plastic dog ears and this washer has literally not had a single issue in 7 years.
I don't think there is anything that can go wrong with it I can't fix with a $15 purchase and a 20 minute YouTube video.
My wife changes the damn sheets on all 4 beds like every 3 days so she runs the hell out of it.

In my experience old school top loading washer with agitator is the best, nothing fancy. Currently have Maytag toploader with no agitator and is the worst. When I was ordering a replacement part for it the sales rep told me to never buy a Maytag again and I won't.

I’m not sure if all the newer washers have the locking lid but I absolutely hate it
Someone recently gave us a Maytag washer, similar to the one in OP but a step lower
We hooked it up & ran it
Started timing loads & it was around an hour & a half
We are hauling it off this weekend, I will spend every penny I have fixing my current 15 year old Kenmore

Two old GE washer and dryers. One of the heat cycles (gentle/lowest cycle) no longer works on the dryer and it’s really inconsistent on drying (it has spells where you have to run in for two cycles to fully dry on medium heat or lower). And the washer can’t handle our comforters for the bed and has issues handling more than a half load of clothes. As in throws water clear out of the thing if it’s more than half full (and well below the max line).

None made today are the quality made decades ago.
No experience here with front load washers.
If you get a top load, make sure it has an agitator, if you can find one.

Visit Stanton's Appliances and chat about makes and models. They are not a high-pressure store. They cautioned me about Korean bands due to problems getting parts. That was pre-Covid, worse now.
In my experience they matched or came very close to matching Lowe's prices, and they service what they sell.

My washer does the same thing. Protip. Just unplug it for a minute and it will reset and you will be washing clothes again in no time.
