re: ISO Horse Tail Plant

Yes I'm aware its aggressive but also hardy. It will be in contained beds around the house under the drip line where every other plant gets beat to death by the rain drip. Even if it does escape I'll just mow it over. I like that its hardy and self spreading, low maintenance. Same with Iris or Canna Lily's although I'm not sure if I get enough sun light for those two.

re: Student Loan Suggestions for College?

Dont do it. Student debt is crippling.

Google the Academic Common Market to help waive out of state tuition. Thats what I used to go to LSU from out of state without paying out of state tuition.
Bought a dump home and USAA never came to inspect. Everything done over the phone. Filed a roof claim 6 months later with no problems. I have ungrounded outlets, foundation problems, old pipes, etc. They are great with my auto too.
I found a 12 yard dumpster for rent on facebook marketplace that included two dumps and one month rent. Paid $500
I paid $4,000 to upgrade to a 200amp. They also installed a whole home surge protector. I know I paid a lot but it was good, reliable work, from a well know licensed and insured contractor. Did it in 3 hours.
I saw a couple hundred near Bay Denesse this week. The Ducks Unlimited crevasses are doing great!
Thanks for the responses! I went to the office on university in person on my lunch break and submitted a permit. Turns out they no longer have the program where they install the culvert if you provide it. They will only survey and permit it for free. Black rubber pipes are specifically not allowed. Currently looking for 15 inch concrete pipe that seems to be hard to find.

I also used the Ekopel kit. I wouldn't say it was easy but after watching 3 or 4 youtube videos i did it myself. My only issue was that I didn't save enough for the front outside of the tub so the front has a few drips. But the shower curtain hides it.
Someone told me the city of Lafayette will pay to install and cover concrete culverts in the open drainage ditch in front of my house as long as I provide the concrete culverts. I can't find any information online about this if its true. Has anyone had experience with this? I want to extra space for off street parking.
I have a lean-to metal porch awning coming off my house that does not have any beam/braces in the middle, but would like to mount an outdoor ceiling fan somehow. I don't think its possible because there is no supportive beam to mount to and it might cause rain water to leak through because of the low pitch. Should I just stick with wall mount swivel fans?

I have USAA that is about $150/month. Its high but has benefits like roadside assistance and towing included. Great customer service allows me to always pick up the phone and talk to a real person who speaks english.

LUS Environmental Fee??

In Lafayette, my past two monthly garbage service bills were $34.22 each. This is just for standard service no bulky waste. Seems very high. Is this normal?
In my experience old school top loading washer with agitator is the best, nothing fancy. Currently have Maytag toploader with no agitator and is the worst. When I was ordering a replacement part for it the sales rep told me to never buy a Maytag again and I won't.
I have one large tree and two medium sized trees in my yard and looking for a cheap company to take them down and grind the stumps in Lafayette. What might that cost??

Structural Engineer in Lafayette

Posted by diyidk on 1/3/22 at 4:17 pm
I'm looking at putting in a recessed beam in between the kitchen and den in my house (about 16ft). I need to find a structural engineer to tell me 1) is this possible, 2) what size beam do I need, 3) What size king studs do I need, 4) LVL or PSL. Not looking for drawings or contractors, just a structural engineer to consult with. I'm on a budget.
