Propane tank overfilled

Took my standard propane tank to U-haul to have it filled. Usually just do a swap at HD or Lowe's but read that U-haul is cheaper and they fill up the entire tank, as opposed to 80% full like the swap out places.
Well the being cheaper part was a lie. Cost me $21 to refill. And apparently the guy overfilled it. I attached to my Weber grill and the regulator started freezing up, like actually cold to the touch with ice on exterior and the flames on grill wouldn't go above low.
I googled and tried "burping" the line etc... Nothing worked. Finally brought the other empty to Lowe's and swapped out. Attached to my grill and everything works flawlessly.
I'm guessing the other tank is overfilled. How can I remedy this? Is there a way to bleed gas from tank?

Some have a bleeder screw on the knob attachment.

Most of the newer propane tanks have an overfill protection device to keep from overfilling. If you open the tank too fast, they sometimes check and won’t reset till you give them some time.

Or if they're tipped over or transported on their side.
As you said, shut it down and open the knob slowly and turn on the burners slow too. Not sure if that's the case with this one, but worth a try!

Just jam a screwdriver in the valve opening and turn the valve on. Be sure to light it so the gas burns off instead of polluting the atmosphere.
(seriously, don't do this, you'll likely die and burn your house down)
Otherwise, I haven't a clue... Personally, if I couldn't find a solution, I'd take it to my camp and light a sterno can next to it then shoot the tank from a hundred yards away. Yes, I'm that foolish.

$21 is not a bad price if it was completely empty

If you had the tank filled on a cool morning, and it warms up the gas expands. So it may not be overfilled. Bleed a little off.

Connect it to a crawfish burner using an adjustable regulator and burn off some of the propane.
Pro Tip
Find a hardware store who weighs the tank BEFORE filling and again after filling,
then charges you for only the gas that they actually put into the tank.

You people complicate shite sometimes.
Hook your hose to the tank, remove the hose from the grill, open the tank valve and be sure to be away from any source of ignition. The propane will bleed off out the open end of the hose.

Why even disconnect it from grill.

I've had tanks go bad and not allow the gas to flow like it should. That only allowed my flames on my grill to burn at low, at best. I thought it was the hose and went and got another one to replace the original on my Weber and the same thing happened.
So I removed the tank and replace it with another one and it worked fine. It wound up being the tank that was bad. May be your issue too. Maybe that is why the new other tank is working fine.

Open hose with nothing to go through like the burners on the grill. Likely dump more gas a bit quicker.

Yeah it cost 17 to fill my 30lb tanks

That sounds really high for Uhaul, they charge $3 a gallon (which is less than tractor supply as of this week) and a tank only holds 4.6ish gallons so you shouldn't be paying more than $15. I just filled two new tanks for under $30 at the local Uhaul store, I am bringing them a 100 lb tank when I feel up to hauling it back home full, I got it as my fuel source to keep on hand for my generator over cycling through 5 gallon gas cans, plus I can always use the gas from my boat for the generator if needed.
