Pool leak question

Pool started losing water. Turned off pump and water level was still going down around 2” per day. Let it continue to go down until it stopped, which was just below one of the return jets. Filled water up enough to cover the jet and shot dye around it to determine exact spot of leak. Couldn’t locate it and now the pool hasn’t gone back down to the level it was before. Any clue as to why the leak has apparently fixed itself?

Pool leaks are tricky so I found out. I have a liner inground pool and it was leaking. There are some pavers lower than the pool and the water was pooling up on the pavers and the pool was losing water. I called my buddy who builds/services pools and he looked at it and told me it would be a good bit to figure it out but would quote me. He said almost all pools leak, but not that bad. After a few days it quit leaking totally. Hasn't leaked in about a year. No explanation as to why.

Common leaks in-line with return jets could be pool light and skimmer. Also check near pool pump and filter for water accumulation or wet spots.
One year I had a leak that was caused by the gaskets in my pool pump shrinking due to weather and would be fine later in the day when it got hotter. One year had a leak behind pool light. Another leak was due to gasket between skimmer and pool wall.
I don't think you'd have a leak in main drain based on the info you've shared, so I would rule that out.

I had a leak and hired a leak detection company. I think it was a big franchised one. Wasn’t as expensive as I thought and they found it around the skimmer. Resealed and it’s been good to go. Think it cost me about $700 total for detection and repair.
