Looking for any recent costs or estimates for a new pool in the general New Orleans Area. Pool would be put in during construction of the house. Not looking for a fancy pool. Just something functional with a hot tub.

On the MS Coast, I'm currently at 76K with a 32x16 gunite with a hot tub. Dig is supposed to begin in Nov.

In Lafayette, we filled our pool a week and a half ago so just about finished. Started at 58 but climbed to 62k after a few mods. 27x17 foot gunite pool with hot tub. Tough to do gunite with spa under 60 and it can snowball very quickly depending on what you want.

Also in Lafayette and we just got done. I expect the final price to be around $53k without a hot tub.

Our fiberglass pool is just about finished and we're at $55k without a hot tub. And we went with saltwater.

In Youngsville as well and considering fiberglass pool. What company did you go with and would you recommend?

Art, I’m not anywhere near that point yet. We’re meeting with our architect tomorrow to start designing our house. If we don’t put a pool in now, then I will make sure most thing’s are already roughed in to add a pool in the future. I guess I’m wondering if there’s a significant cost savings for doing during the the home build versus later down the road. Access to the back yard will not be a problem.

I really doubt there will be much, if any savings if access isn't an issue. The only benefit would probably be based around financing. I'm not so sure there's even a way to rough in anything ahead of a firm pool and decking design.

The same company that dug ours trenched and ran the plumbing for the equipment. The dig took 1 day. The plumbing and rebar took 1 day. The gunite took 1 day.

It's shockingly fast but also the placement of the PVC is very specific to the hole in the ground.

Cajun Pools. We got a quote from Acadiana Pools but they said we would have to take our neighbor's fence down. I said that wasn't an option. Be prepared to wait about a year.

The architect we are using apparently does pool design too. We were going to have him draw up something for us as an add to the contractors proposal. If we don’t move forward with the pool right away, my thinking is that I’ll at least know where I want the equipment located and already have gas, water, power, etc run to that spot when we’re ready for a pool in the future.

so you wont need water. but it would be smart to run gas and power now to where you will want to place the equipment, your architect should know rules on how far it has to be from window etc.

other thing is you want to get a pvc drain line run from you culverts to this place also so when you drain the pool you are not just flowing into your yard.

Why are liner pools looked down upon? Is it strictly the issue of liner replacement?

well they are not as nice in general. Dont look nearly as nice and have a lot more maintenance upkeep, harder to keep clean etc.

my rule is if there is a chance you may sell the house one day....make sure the pool isnt more than 15% of home value. if you keep to that rule...you will prolly get most of the value back out. SO if its not a 500k house....dont do gunite. if its sub 300k house....i would be leary of doing anything but liner.
