Got a cool Dolphin Nautilus a few years ago that was awesome! Until recently it does a little small back and forth dance with no suction, apparently the motor is bad. Charging over $400 for replacement motor. There’s no way this little basic arse motor really costs that, so frick Dolphin.
Followed a great YT video on checking the fan motor bearings but they all turn smoothly. Not sure how to check the drive motor yet but that is my last resort.
Any other viable options? I see mentions of vacuuming manually but not sure how that works. Willing to try anything other than this Dolphin money pit bullshite.
Thanks.

I inherited an m200 at my old house that was about 5 years old already.
I found a site that showed me how to disassemble it and I replaced the treads, pulleys/bearings, little filter nets and a couple other things I forget... All in maybe $100 in parts and it was like brand new after. Took a little elbow grease but worth the effort imo.

If you got 4-5 years out of it you are good. That’s less than 200 a year. Try manual vacuuming for a few weeks, to do a decent job you need 30 minutes and then you got more crap in your filter.

Have you tried testing it to make sure it’s not a cable issue? Mine was having a similar issue a couple years ago and I changed the cable and it’s been working since.

Leslie's supposedly will repair/tune up equipment for only the cost of parts, no labor. My Polaris runs like crap and needs a tune up.
* I have not personally used them for this yet. Just read about it. I normally avoid Leslie's whenever possible.

i kind of went though the same thing. mine had 2 months left under warranty. I sent it in, they replaced the motor but send it back with a different used cable. I have intermittent issues of stupid movments, losing contact with the robot, etc. I think its a cable issue, but i dont want to spend 100 bucks for it not to be that.

Some basic troubleshooting and had a local pool place “run diagnostics” (made me wonder how often they came back with a cheap fix - probably never) and said bad motor.
Will check into that.

It’s pretty easy to take apart. I have 3 girls so I get hair in my impeller all the time. I can definitely see this thing going out at 5 years. Everything seems cheap.

I have a Dolphin s200 that stopped working. The impeller motor was getting stuck. Opened the motor and cleaned the carbon out and greased the bearings. Things worked great again for a couple of months and then it was back to not spinning when submerged (it spun when out of water). Bought a cheap little kit on eBay with new o-rings, bearings and brushes. Getting the bearings off was a challenge, and I had to solder the new brushes to the control board, but totally worth it, and it runs like new now. Also replaced the treads and brushes. Way cheaper than a new robot!

I was two months out of a 2 year warranty. Cleaned the pool for a few weeks, manually, and said Fk that! I'm pretty handy and tried the few fixes found online, etc.
Bought a new one!!

Had the same issue. Mine would go back and forth for a minute then quit. Brought it in and they replaced the motor under warranty. Kids pool toys really mess it up apparently.

Mine lasted 5 years. Worth every penny. Bought another last year.
