Need to seal a cast iron bowl with a 2" hole at the bottom. Will plumbers putty work or will I need something different?

I don’t see why it couldn’t work. But it stays pretty soft. 2” Might blow out unless the putty is fully supported underneath.

Probably want to use plumbers epoxy instead.

May rig up a bulkhead fitting and some sort of cord plug and silicon with it. That way if the pump fails, I won't have to splice the cord or get creative.

This would be my go-to for that problem. Mix up some 2 part epoxy after really cleaning the area needing repair to remove rust, scale, dirt, etc. and lay it on pretty heavy.

Allow to dry and be done with it.

2” is pretty big for a repair area. Do you care what the inside looks like?

Besides the obvious ramen/superglue fix, I’d suggest using a tapered plug with some epoxy or something with a mesh/strength binder (like fiberglass). If you can fit a tapered plug in there nice and tight, you could use the epoxy to fully seal and set, then cut/grind it smooth and paint it to match if you’d like.

I found a tapered plug with a slit for the pump power cord. Going that route with the epoxy. If it doesn't work because the hole is an odd shape, I will probably turn it into a planter or fire pit.

Have you considered JB Weld? That'd be my go to.

That is what I was going to search out. The bottom does have some rust so I will try and wire wheel it when I get a chance.
