Afternoon, I am currently building an outdoor kitchen under a small roof on the exterior of my home. The space lends to a 7’x7’ counter top in an L shape with the grill in the corner of the counter (and home) there is a small vaulted roof above. I am trying to think of a way to ventilate the area but the vent hood would need to be in a corner to be above the grill. Any ideas?

Put it in the corner?

How is the grille in the corner? Is it set at an angle from the corner of the house? Otherwise it would not be useable.

If it is in the corner, why not build out a plenum/hood from wood or brick facade to match and use an inset hood vent. I know wood is okay to use inside, but a grille puts off a little more heat.

That’s correct. It is at a 45 degree angle this is the reason a standard drop hood would be difficult.

Now I understand. A halfass carpenter can build out the corner to put in a standard hood. I've also seen hoods made specifically for corners.

Like this. Amazon Link

Pricey, but they do exist.

Would a fan work?

I had similar issues and decided to install a fan mounted on the wall near my cooking area and when I cook something Smokey, I just turn on the fan and it blows everything out. It works very well.
It’s a nice fan too and serves dual purpose of cooling hot days

I'm trying to envision this. Is tbe roof part of the main structure of your house, or is this a detached setup?

That was my question as well, I have this 3 speed fan below from Amazon hung from the roof of my patio that I use to blow out smoke if I'm cooking under my patio. It's small but moves a ton of air, I have it low enough that I can reach up and adjust the angle to blow it where I want. I'm about to add a second one that way I can have one to handle smoke and another to move some air on the patio to keep the area cooler.

Envision this tucked into an exterior corner of a house. There will be a roof above which will catch all smoke near the peak.

If it was me( and its not...) if you don't already have a nice large patio to construct this under, I would not tuck it into an exterior corner up against the house. I'd build it detached with a better/roof cover for it with some timber framing.

Same thought here. Adding a venthood to an outdoor kitchen sounds like an Aggie joke.

If your cabinets are made out of combustible material, you need a hood vent…… we also have soffit vents on outside of brick cabinets.
