Have this popping up in one spot near pool yard zoysia.
Ran through chat and picture this

Getting nimbleweed , panic veld grass..not sure. Thoughts ?
Don’t think it’s torpedo, not firm enough, and roots didn’t pull out long rhizomes, it came up in little clumps. Blades are softer and narrow, it almost blends into the zoysia except it’s growing taller and lighter green.
Have it in a few other spots in yard, st Aug grass (main grass type)

I did use mason sand to level this area ..could be from that but it’s been over a year ago.

not torpedo. It would have points at the ends of the stems and short scaffolding leaves. looks more like another lawn grass to me

Agree CGrand
It’s not torpedo. I’ve seen that first hand. It’s not as pointy or stiff. It’s rather soft and was not connected to long rhizomes. Roots kind of clumpy

Can’t provide an ID though I’m quite sure it’s not Torpedograss. The LSU AgCenter has a new horticultural & turf weed extension specialist Colton Blankenship LINK - you might want to send him these photos and details you provided on TD and see what he thinks. If he can’t ID usually they’ll send the photo to others colleagues to see what they think it might be. Easier to ID a grassy “weed” when it has a seedhead.

I think I have the same thing. Lime green patches throughout the yard. Real soft blades. Celsius knocks it back for a little bit but comes right back. Never produces a seed head.

Hard to see the collar area from the pics. Do a search on quack grass and see if that look like what you have.

I'm in this camp as well. It used to be in one spot in the back yard and now it's in several different places that are not connected to the first patch.I've been trying to find out what this is. I've sprayed with MSM and it doesn'r help. . It's too much to pull up.

Looks like many have this unique intruder lol.
I guess need to email LSU and see if they have any input.

Seems like every couple years there is a post on this board with a similar looking lawn weed that looks to be southern water grass. It’s a true aquatic weed but occasionally can be in lawns, particularly in low spots/area that tend to remain wet-hold water.

Look at this short video and see if the weed might have some of the characteristics mentioned in this video LINK

Mine is indeed in low spots. Ithas even shown up in the pasture and is on the exit side of a pipe that goes under the driveway to the barn. I have Celsius but have not sprayed it in these spots because I don not think it will kill it(because I do think it's some kind of grass).

The bad thing about southern water grass, if that is what it might be, is there is no selective herbicide that can kill it without harming the lawn grass. One needs to use a non-selective herbicide like glyphosate.

But on the positive side, because it spreads primarily by seed (as I understand), pre-emergent herbicide can be used to control its spread. But it should be positively identified by an expert before taking any dramatic control efforts.

And glyphosate doesn’t easily kill southern water grass. I have sprayed it multiple times and it will dye back but eventually return. Good luck.
