There is zero resistance when I pull up the grass.
Is it as simple as dropping some seeds and maintaining a scheduled watering?

I tried zooming in and I don’t see grass. Looks like weeds. If it pulls up like carpet it could be grubs. If started in the cooler months then it wouldn’t be grubs. Possibly fungus. What is your grass type?

St Aug
Think fungicide will do the trick and then after waiting a week or so, putting some fertilizer before a rain?

Is this just part of the yard? I don’t see any st. Augustine blades. Do you cut it really low? I would think about nuking the area and plugging in some one square foot squares from the good part of your yard in that area. The good thing is that st Aug spreads pretty quickly. Definitely want to diagnose and treat the reason for the issue before hand. Does that area drain well or hold water?

It holds water a good bit, but there are spots that hold more water that aren’t like this
It’s only certain parts of the yard. The majority is fine

If the green grass pulls up without any resistance it could be grubs eating your roots. I’d dig a hole and see if you see any white grubs.
If so grab a bag of insecticide.

How deep do I need to dig? No grub worm, but did find this regular worm

Here is how you can better check for grubs LINK but as ronk said your photos in your original post are too blurry to tell if the green in the photos is St Augustine or just weeds.
Anyway that much grass loss sure looks a lot like like Take-All Root Rot - read this article and see if the symptoms fit your lawn Take-All Root Rot

If this happened during green up or shortly after then it would be take all. Did your lawn turn yellow?
Posted on 4/30/23 at 8:43 pm to ronk
It was yellow during winter for a little while

Probably TARR. Just do a thin layer of peat moss.

Any harm in doing fungicide and fertilizer? I already bought the shite

Mine looks exactly the same. Fertiziled on 4/20 and still looks the same. Guess I'll spread some peat moss. Should I do some disease ex too?

I’ve worked on mine, looked the same in spots and concluded TARR. Have done disease ex and peat moss to half of the front yard and it looks a lot better but still some patches to finish growing in. No more spreading disease. Just need to do other half now. Peat moss is so expensive and you don’t get much per bail from Lowe’s/HD

Either one is solid. I’m more familiar with site one and like the 6% iron. The other has 3% iron but adds organic material to the soil.
