Thanks for this update. i hope so. i just called our builder and told him to hold out on our composite decking material. our deck is 80' wide (spans the back of our house) and our composite decking estimate doubled which is a significant amount of money. hopefully it drops fast enough to still order and install before completion. we were given 6 week lead time and scheduled completion house completion is December 14th.

Art, where are you looking to see the price trend?

we had to go ahead and pull the trigger on our composite. our original composite quote jumped 85%. supplier said it wouldn't come down enough in our time frame for completion.

i checked the commodity pricing today. as of now it is down to half of what the highest point was a month ago, it took a huge noise dive.

Any idea when this will be reflected in pricing at HD/Lowes?

Or is pressure treated lumber going to come back down to reality soon?

Bought Last week, 4 ea 2x4x8’ treated, 1ea 2x6x8’ treated.

i'm so glad i saw this thread! i thought i was crazy when i bought 4 pressure treated 2x16s deck boards for a repair and it ran me $100.

sounds like i might want to skip replacing the other rotten boards for a little while. i was shocked i paid $100 for 4 boards.

So basically futures have been down for 2 weeks. Price at the mills dumped on Friday. Plywood came off at least 20% last week. Might finally see plywood under $30 Osb is not following the trend. They will but it may be longer.

2x material except 2x4 dropped huge numbers last week. 2x6 that we’re costing close to $1 lf come down to about $.60. Lf. Might stay at these numbers for a few weeks. If I had to guess they’ll creep back next year. I have a feeling wel’ll have another high demand but hopefully there will be no coronavirus delays in production.

i need several 16' 2x6 boards for several huge runs on my boardwalk that are rotten.

i have about 50'-70' of boardwalk and 3 decks that is about 25 years old. the rotten wood is mainly from 'cheap' runs where they took a 14' run and split it into 2 smaller pieces i guess to use up the extra lumber. i'm replacing those with single 2x6 boards so i'm not joining at the joists and having to run multiple screws.

Looks like we bottomed out and it’s not looking good going forward. Product is scarce and if construction ramps up again in the spring look for more of the same or worse in 2021

My builder is substituting styrofoam ply board for wood ply board in order to "save me money"
