time to clip off all those pups at the ends of the arms. just clip them off, set each one face up in a seed pot of soil keep watered and keep in the shade. pretty soon you'll have that many new plants.

I was not sure when to do that. That entire plant came from a small pup that a friend gave my wife. It was laying in the floor of her car and I just planted it. LOL I wasnt sure if I needed to clip the pups off or wait till they fell off.

Thanks.

Black Austurkey Mulberry experiment updates…

I got the cuttings and put them into some potting mix on February 12th. I potted them up 3 gallon pots back in April.

Today; roughly 120 days since initially rooting the cuttings I’m putting some trees in the ground. I ended up with 8 that rooted successfully. I chose two that grew multiple branches and hope with judicious pruning to keep them below 8-10 feet and promote a bushy growth habit. Both are about 3 feet tall currently.

Nice work on the mulberry rooting. I'm following this one. The internet is peer pressuring me into growing a mulberry.

All those palms look awesome. Wouldn't worry about the lipstick. Looks like it's doing fine. Mine is much lighter green but getting a lot of direct sun.

So sorry for your loss. But it does provide a great reference for scale.

My Arctic Frost Satsuma is growing insanely fast. It's already as tall as my 5 year old Brown's which is back left of pic. . I planted it last spring and it barely grew last summer. Hopefully the fruit is sweet and it's as cold tolerant as they say. I'm tired of tenting citrus trees.

Just a lb of 8-8-8 back in February.

Planted the beauty berry yesterday, I'll take a picture when the rain stops next week. It's looking healthy.

Damn dude. That's huge for year 2. That bodes really well for future production. If the tree is that happy you should expect excellent fruit.

Arctic Frost has a ton of changsha mandarin DNA in it. Maybe changsha is a vigorous grower.

Thanks man! That's extremely generous. I want to see how yours performs and what you think of it before (if) I commit to any variety. The one I think I want is Red Himalayan DMOR9, but the black Austurkey looks amazing too.

So the utopia trees restock was a bust. They didn’t have any cecilove in stock and also wanted $115 for a 3 gal.

Chat gpt convinced me to have a well rounded flavor profile in 4 trees I needed a cecilove and a lil gem. This was with the constraints of container growing, and good fungal tolerance due to our climate.

This is what it said. Do you agree ?

?? Pickering ? Coconut base
??? Dwarf Hawaiian ? Spice/resin
?? Lil Gem ? Pure sugar anchor
?? Ceci Love ? Complex dessert mango

Found a seller on Etsy (exoticpalmsource)with current recent feedback selling 3g trees for $80. Messaged him about a ceci and he has them both even though ceci wasn’t listed. So got 2 more coming. Lil Gem , and cecilove

That should complete my container mango group.
I should have known this thread would cause this lol.

Now to wait 3 years for fruit ???

Dwarf Hawaiian will also have some coconut and Little Gem will have some Indian/East Indian resin to it. Cecilove will be extremely sweet balanced with acid like a good Sweet Tart.

If I could only choose 4 commonly available mangos to grow in containers in Louisiana, these would be the 4. I am going to try a Zill 40-26 because it has the potential to be incredible, but that is an experimental endeavor and not something I would recommend to someone wanting a sure thing.

Exoticpalmsource is legit. Have purchased from them before.

Yeah you've got 2-3 years of waiting and judicious pruning ahead, but that's gonna be one hell of a dwarf collection.

I have Little Gem in my grove. Added it earlier this year. I’ve had the fruit before and it’s a West Indian flavored mango. So it’s characterized as juicy, with a hint of spice/resin with a coconut finish. It’s disease resistance is fantastic. The tree stays small and produces a lot. Late season mango that will ripen in July or August.

Cecilove is an IndoChinese profile. Big fruity sweetness with a bright subacid component. It’s very tasty. It’s become really popular in the last 2-3 years; but, it is a quirky grower. Laff has had better luck with a tree in a pot than my 2 year old tree in the ground in Central Florida. They seem to stay compact; but, grow slowly and a bit ugly here. My Ceci died during the freeze. I intend to graft some into my existing trees next year.
