Looking to close drainage ditch in front of Lafayette house with concrete culverts.

Someone told me the city of Lafayette will pay to install and cover concrete culverts in the open drainage ditch in front of my house as long as I provide the concrete culverts. I can't find any information online about this if its true. Has anyone had experience with this? I want to extra space for off street parking.

You grab a phone and dial a 10 digit number. When someone answers you ask them.
DRAINAGE DEPARTMENT
Hours: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Phone: 337-291-8509

EBRP, use to have that you provide the supplies which means culverts from approved vendors and they would put it in.
Guy came out gave me what I needed to buy.
I was going to do it, but sold the house.

that is typically the case in a lot of places.. i'd just call and confirm with LCG that they still have the program in place.. how deep of a ditch? shop around for culverts

I live in Lafayette parish and tried to do the same thing.
I spoke with Acadiana Shell and Limestone to do it, they would but I would have to get a permit from LCG first.
The office I went to for the application is located on University, by the thruway, close to the airport. It may be online. Receptionist had the form I needed, completed and left with her.
My application was denied because our subdivision wasn’t design for it, I was told.

Lafayette does most of their permits online now. It actually works really well.

I would check to see if the city will install the black "plastic / rubber" type drainage pipe. I would think it would be a lot cheaper and easer to install.

Thanks for the responses! I went to the office on university in person on my lunch break and submitted a permit. Turns out they no longer have the program where they install the culvert if you provide it. They will only survey and permit it for free. Black rubber pipes are specifically not allowed. Currently looking for 15 inch concrete pipe that seems to be hard to find.

If your subdivision drainage plan is for open ditches, you should be careful in replacing the open ditch with a pipe. the pipe has a reduced carrying capacity and would erect a partial dam in front of your house. The unintended result is that the water won't drain as quickly and may cause flooding. There was a subdivision in Broussard that did this a decade ago or so and they had flooding in homes due to some houses having ditches and others having culverts. It was a total mess.

Depending on length and width of ditch, you might consider laying grating across the ditch. I notice they have some used pieces at Henderson Auctions in Livingston sometimes.
