I was making fun of him correcting the OP calling it a wax seal.

I get it... I was told by my wife several years back that "I think the thing in the attic that makes the hot water is bad".

Uh.. you mean the hot water heater?

"That's what I said."

Appreciate all the replies. After further investigation it seems like one of the nuts in the bottom back of the tank that holds the tank to the toilet was loose and dripping a bit. I tightened it and doesn’t seem to be accumulated water on the floor. I’ll see tomorrow morning if it remains dry. Glad it was mentioned to check that first. Thanks.

Not uncommon at all and likely the problem OP. Glad you got it figured out! Cheers!

One tip is you can put food coloring in the tank bowl and see if it’s bleeds anywhere

Make sure it's not water leaking from the tank. A couple of years ago I had everything prepared to change my wax seal, but luckily discovered a rubber washer/gasket was rotted on the inside of the tank so one trip to HD and maybe 2.00 later it was fixed. It's really difficult to see clear water running down the back of the toilet.

BTW, this is what I used last time. 1000x easier than using the old school wax ring.

tube of clear silicone. You'll need to run a bead of silicone around the base when you're complete.

I've heard it's best to leave a small gap on the backside of that silicone seal. That way, if water does leak from the flange area, you'll see it before it ruins the flooring.

This was the problem, well the gasket/rubber stopper was fine, I just needed to tighten the nut to the bottom of the tank.

First step in fixing any leaks is to make sure where it’s coming from first. Don’t assume.

Wax ring, baw. Cheap part and fairly easy labor. Watch a YouTube video or two and you’ll be fine.
