Day 10. I'm itchin' to mow. It's probably 3 inches tall in areas.
And I think that mowing is the only way to force lateral growth to replace those dead spots.

Grock says it's ok since I'll be using a light manual reel.
What say you good folks?

Manual reel shouldn’t hurt if you’re careful. I have the Fiskars max or whatever. I’d start at around 2”. Mine will start to pull and leave waves if I try to chop off too much. That could pull up lightly rooted sod. You’ll also need to probably use a power mower to eventually get down to the height you want as it’s getting thick. There’s no easy way.

No issues mowing with a reel mower.

We shall see! I don't know what my plans are.
Probably just keep it around 1 to 1.25" for this year.

I think I’ve mowed three times in 5 days trying to promote growth.

Also used the last 2 lbs of starter fert and spoon fed some Air-8 and RGS.

Just added a hand full of sand on the dead spots thinking the Bermuda will run to the sand.

This is Day 14

It’ll be interesting to see how it does in the shady areas.

It’s getting 11:00 to 5:00 full sun in April so I think it’ll be fine.
May trim the pines back for 30 more minutes of morning sun.

Looks great. You’ll have to keep leveling it off with the sand to cut it really low (if you want) and to smooth out the seams.

It’s a great time to put it down and let it really root and take off before summer.

Did you happen to inquire from Woerner on the price for Palisade Zoysia? I need to get a few pallets to put down around some trees where the Bermuda isn’t surviving.

I agree. The timing was great. Even though we had no rain since install temps have been low enough for it not to be stressed. I thought I’d need a timer to automate, but I ended up returning it.
Once or twice per day has been fine.

I didn’t inquire about Zoysia, but they seem to be reasonable. Give em a call.

At some point you gonna have to do a complete top dress to smooth out the bumpy spots which are gonna naturally occur, but you already know that, good job, Bermuda is tough and resilant, i would post a pic but I'm a dumb arse. I sodded a spot with grass growing in expansion joints last year and was completely filled in a month you'll get it

Yes, I may top dress or level next year.
It’s Day 17 and I have officially backed off on the watering. Hit it for just 30 minutes yesterday and won’t water today.
I’ve mowed 5 times in the last 8 days :)
Just put one of those conveyor rollers on the earthwise.
This was only one cut. With more time I would have double cut for stripes. Can’t wait to see it after we catch a thunderstorm. Hope it happens today.

Called today since back yard is so terrible.

$295. Can you makes sense of why it would be so much higher than TifTuf?

If it were $205 I’d have been tempted, but I immediately raked leaves, hand tilled, and fertilized my worst areas. I’ll let the Centipede and St. Aug try to fill in.

Because TifTuf is probably the easiest /fastest grass on earth to grow in an open field.
That’s why it makes a great lawn or football field.
**perineal turf grass

Zoysia is a slow grower so you are going to pay for that time.

Amazing what a good rain will do for your grass,my Cal trimmer is in the shop new bearings bed knife and a reel grind, I/m behind schedule for verticut, just gonna have to wait till i get the mower back, yard looks good, get you some carbon pro (lesco) and some lesco 13-0-0, your yard will be dark green and you'll love it, and, I see a powered reel mower in your future.
