Is there a good time of the year to buy a storage shed?

I'm looking for a shed to house my riding lawnmower, other yard equipment, some seasonal decorations, pool equipment and chemicals. Looking for a 10x12 or a 12x12 shed. Do sheds ever go on sale or have promotions during certain times of the year? I see them all the time outside of Home Depot, but I don't know if that's the best place to get one. I live in Mandeville so where is the best place to get one?

Any metal building suppliers around? Before you purchase one I would talk to them. Often times they have contractors that can build something a little more substantial for the same cost.

I was hoping for more responses to the thread, but it seems like not many people are in the market for a storage shed.

I don’t think they are on sale nor will they be at the moment. The wife wants one to make into a she shed/ home office and apparently they are selling like 200-300% above average volume.

Most can afford a $15k shed to turn into an office from this work from home stuff, but may not be able to afford the $100k renovation to add an office.

I told her no btw - not enough room.

I highly recommend building your own if you can measure and use a saw and nail gun. I built my wife an outside office (first real stick construction I ever attempted) and then a coordinating shed for storage and my mower. Both are way nicer than a portable shed type setup and the mower shed was built for around the same price as buying one off the shelf.

I got my plans from here: iCreatables Shed Plans

I've thought about it. I'm just notorious for starting a project and stopping to do something else.

Was looking late last year. Home Depot had their Tuff Shed brand sheds on sale. The one on Highland in Baton Rouge had the base model wooden shed in 8’ by 10’ for $1,500. No shelving or finishing inside, but outside was finished.

Due to size and shape of my yard, I opted for a lifetime plastic shed online for $1,000. Built a wooden base with treated wood ourselves.

Did you get a building permit to put that up?

That is very nice. What’s the time of day when ya took that picture? We have a neighbor a few doors down that has one very similar to yours that I want to replicate to use as a shop/bunk house.

No permit on the shed. I called the parish and because I didn't run power and it was under 200'^2 the lady in the permit office told me it was unnecessary.

My wife's office however was permitted. It is larger and has power, so that opened up the plan inspection, foundation inspections, framing, electrical and final inspects. (Office came first so I was shocked that I didn't have the same hassle with the mower shed). I think I took that picture in the morning around May when I was working from home.

Here is a picture I just snapped of the office.

Mower shed is 10x14. Office is 12x16.

Both of those are awesome. Are the both on a concrete base?

Yes. The office I had a crew come in to form it up and I did the rest with the exception of drywall myself. The shed I dug it, did the rebar and mesh, rented a georgia buggy and had a load show up on a Saturday morning. That was a rough Saturday but managed to do a fairly good job I think.

That was one of the main wife points. Shed had to be on a slab, and I don't disagree. The difference in appearance between an above ground and one on a slab to me is pretty big. In exchange, she drove the Georgia buggy and helped screed. She's a trooper.

* I'd also add, the slab and rental etc added considerably to the cost of the shed. The doors and windows were not too bad.

** Another great addition was these Duraflow Shed Light vents. Since I don't have power, I bought the translucent shed vents and put two in when roofing. I walk in and always think "damn, I left the lights on" and realize there isn't lights nor power. Duraflow 5975C Shed Vents

Can’t get over how expensive these are. We need one for our camp, they cost too damn much!

Thanks for sharing bro! Yours look really great. I wouldn't mind tackling a project like this for myself, but it would take me close to a year to build something by myself. When I built my outdoor kitchen that took me a little over a year to finish it.

Thanks. It took me several months for sure. I did it during the cool months as well so that helped. Digging the slab was a gold plated B. I used a mantis tiller and shovel. My wife helped me frame. She's great on the miter saw.

I forget what it all cost in the end, and there could have been ways of doing it cheaper. Slab, not using Hardie for everything. Less windows (although they are really cheap to special order). The framing and stuff is fast and cheap though, and that is mostly what you are paying for for a pre-built. I have tons of straps on my rafters in addition to nailing them. Hurricane straps are cheap. Both of my buildings are hardie and pvc everywhere. Not a bit of exposed wood to rot.

Morgan buildings. Bought one 9 years and no complaints. Not sure how much the cost has increased over time though.

What size and where did you get the row of small windows at the top?

I got all of the materials from Picou Lumber including the windows. Those top ones are 4'x1' and according to my sales order were $65/ea. They're double pane which is silly, but I ordered the same windows I put on the office because I liked them. For additional reference, the front one is 48"x30". I forget how much that was because all I can find is my quote and they quoted me tempered at $222. It was closer in price to the $65. Probably $100ish.

Your best bet is to get say a 10%off coupon to save anything off the standard price.
They don't typically mark them down.
