Remodeling and expanding our master bathroom. Is a duct run to this space necessary for air conditioning? There is a window, vent and heater already.

I dont have an ac vent in one of my bathrooms. Unless you leave the door open, it gets hot as shite in there.

Just don’t put one in an enclosed toilet room.
You don’t want positive airflow from there.

Yes...even if you just run some flex duct th tho register. You’ll regret if you don’t install a duct word.

Not saying you have to have one, but I hav a couple friends who had mold issues until they had them installed. They also kept bathroom doors closed, so not much air flow in them.

Yes, run one. Cost is very cheap over all. Not having one, moisture builds up due to heat from a shower and different temp outside that room. Mold can grow very easy. Also it sucks stepping out a shower and then breaking into a sweat.

This is your master bathroom, too. 100 percent do it. I have one bathroom on the other side of the house that gets super hot unless we leave the door open. I don't mind it since it's not often used and I have a two others closer to the main spaces of the house. Maybe down the road I'll add one, but for your master I think it's necessary, unless you want an unhappy wife getting ready in a humid bathroom....let me know how that goes for her hair

Thanks all. Getting one installed.

My second bathroom doesn't have one and it seriously feels like that bathroom isn't even inside. I didn't build the house, but if I had I definitely wouldn't have skipped that.

+1. Our half bath doesn't have one and it gets hot in there. I've thought about adding one myself but I don't know enough about them to do it. Maybe eventually.

Don't have one in my half bath. no issues.
Have on in the kids bathroom, but i leave the vent closed. No issues.
Don't have on in the much larger master bath. No issues.
We also don't leave any of those doors closed.

Nobody wants to take a steaming hot dump.

My master in the current house is the biggest bath I've ever had and is at the very end of the house, with the longest run. Even with two vents, it gets hot. When I replace the whole system this fall, I am going to ask for more flow to that room.

i have a large master bath with a vaulted ceiling. I do have a cassette, but the heatload from the windows was too much. i added a 12x12 return back to my airhandler and it has made a WORLD of difference.
All that said, if you add a register, you might consider adding a return as well to circulate the air. i.e remove moisture and heat instead of just dumping air into the space. should only cost 200-300 more dollars for flex duct, grill, and labor.

Really not hard to do. You can buy everything at Home Depot. Problem there, their collars don't have a baffle. That helps you adjust the air flow thru the duct.
A 6' collar, $5, going to need two of them. 25' of 6" flex duct, $30, a 6"x12"register box, $15 and a 6"x12" register cover,$12 and one roll of good tape,$18.
Tools
Utility knife
Tape
Pencil
Sheetrock knife.
Screwdriver
That is it.

Fishntyger is right, in fact you'd be better off installing a return only than a supply only

Yes. It is absolutely necessary. Good lord. Hire a professional.

If it is on an exterior wall then definitely needed.

We bought a house that lacked registers in the bathrooms. The first thing we did was add them. It was ridiculous that it was built that way.
