I have a Stihl KombiMotor setup, takes just seconds to swap from the trimmer head to the edger, absolutely prefer using the edger vs edging with the trimmer. Faster and cleaner results.

+1 here. Same set up and I love my bladed edger.

For me it is; I have this one ( LINK)

When replacing the cutting blade don't buy an exact replacement....buy one like this LINK

I forgot the exact one I have but you'll figure it out for fitness. It'll last MUCH longer and will be less expensive.

Ok, you guys convinced me to make the move. I just ordered the one I've been eying. Should be here Thursday, just in time for yard day. Will post results.

I picked up a Ryobi edger when it was on sale at HD for $100. Now, I can keep a clean line by only breaking it out maybe once a month. IMO, well worth it as it has drastically cut down on my edging time.

Guess I'm in the minority here. I have an edger attachment for my Echo head unit. I never use it. Not because it bogs but simply because I've gotten more efficient with a weedeater. I've learned that there is an angle to edge with a weedeater at that doesn't chew line up as bad. I'm walking backwards with the weedeater line shooting counterclockwise away from me and I walk on the grass side of the area I'm edging (not on the concrete). But if you're not keen on figure out the crap that affects a decent trim job with a weedeater, an edger would be better.

How often do you edge with the trimmer?

I ended up with a Ryobi power head when my B&D stuff finally started wearing out. I added an edger attachment and like it. I have the trimmer, pole saw, blower, & edger attachments. The blower is just OK, it's quiet but doesn't have the power of the old echo gasser it replaced.

I had that exact one too (black and decker cord 2 in 1 edger and trencher). I personally hated it. Gave it away after first summer of using it.

I’m personally just faster and cleaner edger using my weedeater.

Every second mow at least. Depends on how fast the grass is growing. I have a 150’ long driveway and about 100’ of pool decking. Front walkway is about 80’. So about 560 linear feet of edging.

I have one like this I picked up at an estate sale for like $50 years ago. Best money I've ever spent. Once you get one, you'll never go back to a weedeater.

A few years ago my son came home with one that he said someone put out on the curb. Damn thing looked almost new so I kept it for a spare for when my current one shite the bed. It did and I'm using yours now

Thanks

I use a STIHL FC 91. Once you cut that rut you can basically just roll along the edge of the concrete using one hand and walk rather quickly on subsequent cuts.

I use a true edger about twice a year. It puts a good cut down into the ground, then I use a string trimmer whenever I cut the grass to maintain.

I have a Stihl dealer about 2 miles down the road that I bought my edger from. Not sure which one I have, but it’s like a weed eater with a edger on the end and it’s a beast. Once you get that original rut dug in you are golden. Looks so much cleaner and professional when you put that edge on it versus using a weed eater. The blades are easy to swap out when worn down too. I trim the edges of my flower beds with it and that also looks sharp as hell. Easy way to keep the bermuda out of those beds.

Tool has been acquired:

Since I am a greenworks customer, I stuck with my family of 60v tools.

It is substantially harder than I was expecting for a first timer.

Looks awesome. That edging will be easier and faster on you moving forward. That first edge is the hardest, but now that you got your trench edge set it’s smooth sailing from here on out. Congratulations on your purchase.

Nothing like the cut of a real edger, not the weedeater with a blade like they sell now.
