I'm considering getting home owners and auto insurance with State Farm.

I have policies with them. Their rates have gone up like others have. No problem with claims.

Not sure if they are taking on new customers.

They make you hook up the driving tracker to get a reasonable car rate.

Not sure if it's a trend, but State Farm was screwing people left and right after Ida. That was never the case in the past.....they always had great customer service.

New business model? I dunno, but multiple people I know had to fight for their money after Ida.

I have home and auto through them. If you ever want a new roof via a hail damage claim you have virtually no chance. They are known in the roofing industry for this.

I'm in GA and not LA but I've had 2 roofs replaced through SF for hail damage over the past 30 years.

To me SF is one of the most expensive out there. House & 2 cars. Waiting on an accident to come off my wife's record and then going to price out USAA.

If you thought SF was high, wait until you quote USAA. USAA's business model is blind loyalty.

This! I have state farm simply because I can’t beat their price. Just had usaa quote me $200/month more for car insurance than I’m currently paying and around $250/yr less for home owners.

I’ve had USAA for a few years. House and cars are all insured with them and my rate actually went down last renewal on the house AND cars. They treated me like legit royalty after a hailstorm in April 2021 and again after Ida.

Blind loyalty checking in!

I am actually about to move to them as well. Have homeowners through UPC but have to switch since they are pulling out of LA. Out of the quotes I got, SF was the best when bundling home and auto.

I have been with State Farm forever. They are no worse than the others and probably better than most. I would not direct you away from them.

From talking to several people with different companies, this appeared to be the trend across the State. There were a number of people that got enough to not bother, but there were also a large number that was given pennies on the dollar for their claims.

The one consistency I heard with SF was everyone I know that had them (maybe a dozen people) had 5% hurricane premiums; and people with other insurance carriers were at 2-3%. I realize these decisions are based on the level of risk each person is willing to take, but it's also how they were able to get their SF rates to be comparable to the other insurance carrier rates.

Had State Farm on my first home in 1982 and still on my present home. Auto also.
Here in Lafayette we used to have a local claims office. When I had hail damage a few years ago I found out the claims office is closed, replaced by roving adjustors. Even thought I could show that State Farm had paid for hail damage for three homes next to me, they denied the claim. My agent fought for me, got another adjustor and they finally paid the claim. State Farm Claims is not what it used to be.

We have been with State Farm for 35 years. We had a total tear out and rebuild after Katrina ( $190k claim) and they treated us well by paying for EVERYTHING including living expenses while we were out of our house for 7 months. They also paid for a new roof along with a fence and tree removal after Ida. It was a pleasure working with them. I will go to my grave singing the praises for SF.
We have our auto insurance with them and the rates are decent.
