Have seen some serious numbers recently along with some funny behavior.
Have had a few males and females fighting or flirting or something similar today around our feeder by a big bay window that normally scares them away if we move too much on the other side but they’re so preoccupied they don’t mind us.

The last few days the hummingbirds have been going crazy. I guess it is the heat. They are fighting over the two feeders from daylight to dusk. I saw four of them today.

Serious uptick in numbers at my feeders around CenLa this week. Not nearly fall-migration numbers, but I have had roughly two times as many as I have had all summer.

rufous hummingbirds are pretty much the same size as ruby throated...buff bellied hummingbirds are larger, but more likely to be seen in louisiana in fall and winter...they breed in southern texas, so they could be expanding their range...

This is the first juvenile male with the gorget showing that I've seen this year...I usually don't see the young males this early...this picture was taken July 30th, and there was a second one here today...

With the cool spell we had a swarm of hummingbirds yesterday at the two feeders. We had to refill them twice.

we have 4 feeders we have to refill about every other day. got about 15-20 that seem to be hanging around.

We have two feeders and multiple plants to attract them. We may lose them for a couple of months in the winter. Otherwise, they nest in the two trees in the front yard. About thirty minutes from Savannah.

I only have one currently feeding at my feeder. Yesterday, I was in the garage and he hung around for a minute or so and actually circled me closely twice, which was strange.
I went. To the back yard to find the feeder empty, so I refilled it and he has been feeding heavily all day. Since there are no flowers right now, I guess he was starving.
I guess maybe they associate humans with food somehow.

I have a male that dominates one feeder. This is his 3rd year returning to my feeders and stays from spring to fall. He must have a wing defect because when he turns on the after burners it makes a different sound than the other hummers. Its kind of whirring sound instead of the normal hummer sound. That's the only reason I can tell it's the same bird. Doesn't seem to slow him down any. Sounds like he has a turbo

i have one adult male currently, as well as two or three juveniles and at least one female...when i sit out to take pictures, the adult male will fly away momentarily if i so much as turn my head...the others don't mind me being around, and will occasionally fly up within a foot or two of my face before they go to the feeder...some of the juveniles are a bit scruffy, but i wish there were more distinguishing characteristics like the one you have...

I did not put one out until this morning. I did so because a male came in and hovered where I normally put the first feeder. They know.

We now have three feeders out. Early in the morning and late in the evening they are very active. At times I cannot count them.
