I have two large golden retrievers. They came from a multiple national grand champions bloodline in Field Trials and are large dogs, each in-shape and still over 110 lbs. each. They kill a yard with their piss in one season. I decided to give them half the yard covered by turf and fill designed for dogs and half the yard (fenced off) for us to enjoy. The contractor just finished the job on Thursday.

However, there's a damned rabbit, maybe two, that has decided the turf grass is delicious and has already chewed four small holes.

I have a havaheart trap. I have put it out with carrots and apple. Two mornings in a row, the food is gone. Once, the trap didn't close. Last night, the door closed but the carrots and apples were gone.

I had also set up a motion activated sprinkler, sprayed rabbit repellent around the outer edges just off the turf (don't want to spray that on artificial grass, itself) and have motion activated lighting. None of that worked last night to scare off the rabbit(s) and I had another damn chewed spot.

I'm in the city so can't sit outside waiting for it to show up in order to use a .22 rifle and end it's miserable turf chewing existence, so are there other, proven options to getting rid of this (these?) little assholes?

you leave those bunnies alone.
Also, you have two champion bloodline goldens and you’re asking how to get rid of a rabbit?

The damned bunnies come in between midnight and 6:00am. Any bunny stupid enough to come into their area while they're in the yard better be fast as frick.

How do you know it is a rabbit(s)?

Air rifle, one of the high power ones. If being seen is an issue from being in the city, open a window and shoot from inside your house.

The .22 caliber ones are quieter than the .177 models.

Ask around. You probably have a friend who will loan you one for a few days.

Yeah, 'cause they're dying out, there's so few! In danger of extinction!

Those trigger mechanisms on the hav-a-heart trap can be a little forgiving for the vermin. You have to place the trap down where you want it and set the wire just on the edge of the little bent end, like making a hair trigger. You’ll eventually catch them and can relocate or frickin eat ‘em if you want. Those traps work pretty well.

they are cute though I like having them around. My dogs are in their teens now so they spend most of the day on the couch and the rabbits have come back.

I planted a bed of lettuce for them

Those frickers ruined $800 of Christmas yard decorations this past year. I'm like Bill Murray in Caddyshack, except for rabbits.

You could get a cat, and he’d take care of them since your dogs can’t or won’t, but having an outside cat is a big no no around this site. We’re trying to get more bird shite on our cars round here, so no more cats.

I have already suggested an outside cat. We've had three. The bobcats got one, the coyotes got one and owls got the other, so the wife is reluctant.

You know you can get a suppressor for the .22, and shoot subsonic bullets. Hardly makes a sound.

Trade dogs with me for a week. I've got two dachshunds that get the red arse at anything that walks by. As much as those little bastards sleep, when they're on patrol, shite's ON.

Go down the YouTube rabbit hole (pun intended) of weenie dogs tearing critters up. They don't mess around!

I have every kind of animal imaginable in my yard, yet I have still yet to see a rabbit in my yard. I guess the alligators or foxes are mostly to blame.
