Is this something, I, with no previous experience, can do? If so, can anyone explain the process to me as if I was an idiot?

TIA

Not hard at all. Use some TAPCON screws and bit. Mount the same way you would on a regular wall (assuming you could do it on a regular wall)

Several youtube videos as well. Check this one out.

You e gotta have a hammer drill and the correct hardware to mount the tv on bricks. If you don’t know what the correct hardware is, I would probably just pay someone to do it for you or your new tv will be scattered all over the living room!

Thats not fair man. The first time I had to mount something on a brick wall, I simply researched it on youtube and learned about TAPCONs. From there, I was able to do it easily on the first try.

I even went and bought this cheap $22 hammer drill from walmart expecting it to be a one-time use drill. I've been pleasantly surprised and have used it several times on my house. LINK

I would not use Tapcons to support a TV. I’d go with wedge anchors.

You can also get by without a hammer drill, but it certainly makes the job a lot easier.

I don't care who you are. If you care enough to just pay slight attention to what you do, you can do this.

Rent a hammer drill for 4 hours, buy a pack of appropriately sized tapcon screws, and the right sized masonry drill bit that the tapcon screws tell you to buy and have at it.

Drill into the brick, not the mortar.

I used wedge anchors but tapcons will do just as well.

Try to mount into the mortar, not the brick.

After your finish with your hammer drill, make sure you blow out or vacuum out the dust in your drilled hole.

Thanks for the replies guys. I watched a couple of YouTube vids and learned about tapcom before posting this.

Y’all gave me just enough confidence to go for it

NO!!!

Do not mount into the mortar. It will crumble and will not give you a solid mount.

Hammer drill, Tapcons, mount into the brick itself as others have said.

Drill into brick, not mortar. Got it.

Some vids mention trying to drill into a certain area of actual brick. Any comments/concerns re this?

I just lined up my mount on the bricks to where the holes would be as close to the middle of the bricks as possible.

If you know where the holes in the brick are, you should try to drill into the solid part.
Not all bricks have the same number of holes in the same place however, and where your mounts line up may make it impossible. Just make sure your Tapcons are big enough to handle the weight load.

Another tip...
Don't overdo it when tightening the Tapcons. If you overtighten and they start spinning in the hole, they lose gripping power. Back your drill clutch setting down so it just snugs them up good. Better to start out with your clutch set where it doesn't bottom out the Tapcon on the first run in, and adjust up from there till you get it snug.
ETA: Don't use the hammer drill to run the Tapcons in. Use a regular drill.

just be 100% sure you know exactly what its made of

some bricks are soft and some are hard, some are just thin slices of brick and not whole bricks.

dont assume anything and confirm exactly what you are securing it to so nothing starts coming apart or falling off

Is this going above the fireplace? Like 7 feet up in the air?
I hope not.
Not a fan of TVs mounted high above a fireplace.

You will be fine if you do spin one most brackets have multiple mounting areas just leave it drill another hole run one in. Good for you doing something outside of your comfort zone!

I think the shear strength of a 1/4” tapcon with 1” bite is something like 1,000 lbs. Unless you’re hanging an early 2000s era plasma, I think you’re good.

Once you crack the brick you are screwed... expandable Inserts go into the drilled out mortar, as most likely the bricks are hollow core.... I am not a contractor... But I did sleep in a Holiday Inn last night.
