You have an old roof. The policy is not a warranty. You have to take responsibility for the roof yourself.
It’s mind blowing how many people don’t understand this.
Unless, you know, he has actual storm damage. In which case he's using his policy for the reason he actually pays for coverage.

Keep fighting...I have 50+ shingles MISSING from my 9 y/o 30 year roof, a roof leak in my garage and Allstate rejected with a letter stating they found 7 damaged shingles only. complete bullshite, immediately invoked my right to 3rd party apprasial and now they are dragging their arse to respond. They are going to put a new roof on me and lose a customer.

Get up there with a ball peen hammer and make some hail damage on any flashing or metal surfaces
Under no circumstances, take this bozos advice. This is the dumbest thing you could ever do and also insurance fraud.
Any roofer and adjuster that knows what they are doing can tell if the roof has hail damage or deliberate/manufactured damage. Hail and a ball peen hammer create completely different types of damage. You realize every piece of hail is a different shape, size, weight, density right? Yet you're some idiot that gets on his roof and creates 100 hits that look EXACTLY the same all over his roof.
Hmm, I guess you happen to be the first house in the history of hail storms that has the exact same type of hail hit all over his entire roof! Congrats!Posted on 5/30/24 at 11:20 am to hookfin
I had an old roof, never had issues so never needed to replace. Why would someone replace a roof not having issues? Old doesn’t mean bad. Got a new one after Ida took shingles and adjuster said time for a new roof. Done.

Sounds like you used to be a Jasper roofing dude.

Maybe use a few different sized hammers?

5% deductible on $500k+ policy = roof. Insurance in south Louisiana is close to worthless unless the house blows away.

I had insurance cover a roof replacement after a hurricane. The inspector/adjuster came out and looked and suggested getting a few quotes for partial replacement and have the company write on the quote will not warranty work because they are not replacing the entire roof. I was very fortunate because it was a fairly smooth process.

Just shows how dumb most adjusters are. He's there at your house, telling you how to possibly get your roof paid for, when all he has to do is approve it himself. That's literally his job. He was just too lazy to do the work. Now that's going to require you finding someone willing to do that, and then the insurance company sending someone else back out to your house instead of him simply approving it.

Mine was 19 yo 30 year roof.
I'm not a roof shingle professional but I can use common sense. A 30 year life span on a roof does not mean that every shingle will last 30 years or that you should wait 30 years for a new roof. That's just a manufacturers average rating under optimal conditions. That's like the MPG on a vehicle.
I don't know the answer, but IMO insurance is making a lot of people replace any roof that is older than 10-15 years. If you want a roof replaced for minor damage all the time, this is what insurance is going to make you do. You aren't winning the battle here financially with low rates and a free roof anytime there's a minor storm.
There really should be fairly major roof depreciation after about 10 years to the point where after year 15 or so you really shouldn't be covered for the actual roof material. I don't think they should require a new roof after 12-15 years or drop you, but it a 20 year old roof shouldn't be replaced due to storm damage imo.

Question: do you know how adjusters are paid? Just curious. I guess I figured maybe based on the claim amount but then they’d be jacking claims up so that can’t be it.
Flat fee per claim??
Flat fee per claim??

Local staff adjusters are normally salary based.
Catastrophe adjusters (normally who come in after a disaster because there are too many claims for the local adjusters to handle) are typically commission based.
As a homeowner, it's better to have a catastrophe adjuster come to your house because they are more inclined to pay for damages. And they typically have seen a lot more than a local adjuster so they know how to handle/knowledge to write up a claim/estimate properly. Local adjusters like to act like the money is coming out of their pocket.

I filed, the adjuster came out, and denied the claim.
Did YOU file the claim, or did you let the roof company file it?

A roofer cannot file the claim for them. They should be inspecting to advise whether or not they have damage/if they should file a claim, not actually make the claim itself. The agent or person they talk to on the phone would tell the roofer to take a hike if they tried to file a claim for a homeowner

Hmmmmmm, I guess my roofer forged my signature. I never signed anything except the contract with my roofer. I was asked to pay a small deductible. Within 2 weeks, my roof was replaced with upgraded shingles and I received reimbursement from my roofer for about 75% of the deductible I paid.
Guess I played the system and didn't even know it. Wooooooooooo!

These roofing companies are scammers and committing insurance fraud. I had premier south come out to inspect my roof after the last storm just to be safe. I told the guy the roof is only 2 years old and over the phone he said, "don't worry, we are going to find damage. We always find something." That's why our insurance is so damn expensive here. They are no better than the ambulance chancing lawyers.
PS is very well known for damaging shingles purposely to get a carrier to buy the roof. I had an adjuster tell me there’s nothing they can do bc PS employees adjusters and lawyers to fight the mechanical damage.
There’s also one who stormed the market last year or year before. I got a call from home owner and home owner insurance company to inspect the roof after the said company went out. Mechanical damage all over the roof. They recently went through a name change and hitting the market hard again
Yes…shady companies like them and several others are the reason our insurance is so high.
My guys know they’ll be fired on the spot if they illegally touch a roof

You also unknowingly committed insurance fraud and are a part of our higher insurance rates.
