This might be a completely ignorant question, but is there someone in the Baton Rouge area that will design/plan a deck/patio in the Baton Rouge area? I'm wanting something built off my sunroom that sits between our sunroom and pool. There are a lot of variables involved such as inclines/declines, drainage and french drains. The caveat is that I'm not ready to build but I am wanting to get something planned/designed.

You're going to have a hard time getting someone to work on this for you with no potential return. Not many people want to do this when there is no chance of it turning into actual work. When homeowners want this, it usually just seems that they want a contractor to come out and get everything lined out, say what all needs to be done, then never call back and just try and do it all themselves.

If you're upfront with someone and say "I'm not ready to build", most are going to just say "ok, when you are ready to build, just give us a call back and we'd be glad to see if we can help you out." Unless you can just find a design company that that is what they specifically do and charge just for coming up with the design.

You can hire a landscape architect to develop a plan for you. I’m sure someone on the H&G board can suggest one or more in the BR area for you to consider.

Yeah, that's why I said my question was probably ignorant. I certainly would fairly compensate the person/company for designing something but we're just not ready to start the project of actually building just yet ..we would just like to have a solid plan in place.

You can always look online for a designer. I’m sure Fiverr or some other website like that has some landscape designers that you can hire to design something for you.

you can call a landscape architect, there’s a price to do anything and if you pony up you can get anything drawn. A good one will come out, shoot elevations, do a drainage plan and get you a set of drawings you can bid/build from. The LA won’t care if you ever actually build it, their job is done once the drawings are complete

Downside is you won’t know what the project will cost until you get quotes from contractor

I can do it if you can send me specs… I’m in Alabama but own a landscape/hardscape design/build company.

I had multiple companies come out and render 3D drawings and gave those drawings to a company that was able to do the job 20% cheaper.

Like previously mentioned, a landscape architect will do the work regardless of whether there will be an outcome at the end. They're getting their money regardless. They will also bid it out to crews to do the job.

What do you estimate the job to be? 50, 100, 100+?

Would an online design tool help?

Google deck design tools and a few sites pop up that could help. Could try some ideas of your own and play around with it.

No idea how user friendly or easy those tools are. Could be fun and interesting though. I've never tried them out, so I'm not sure.

My cousin owns a landscaping company, does work for a few. Then my nephew also owns a landscaping company. He does anything needed. Drainage, landscaping, etc. He has a dingo, making it easy to get into back yards, making it easier for the labor part. Might post a few pictures, describing what your ideas as to what you want done.

Searched for landscape design and your post popped up.

I was hoping to get a backyard design done that I could then work on myself or hire out specific parts of the job as I'm ready to do them.

Is that something (the design) you were talking about in your post?
