Actually my favorite by far. However, the durability is what scares me. Jazz white marble or white carrara is awesome.

We went with quartz for the interior tops and granite in the outdoor kitchen.

I like the simplicity of quartz and feel that granite can look too busy. Marble is great looking, but is a very soft stone. Stains and scratches too easily with kids.

Quartz looks fake, quartzite is $$$$. And granite is so 00’s.

Our last house had butcher block countertops so if we can handle that, we can handle marble. The ancient world is built out of marble and somehow lasted. If you’re not an a-hole to it, you’ll be fine.

Again, I agree. I can not be a-hole, but the rest of the family are constant assholes.

We put in new kitchen counters Sept 2019, we went with Santorini quartzite.

We have a bathroom to redo, plan to replace all the bathroom counters when we get around to it.

This is all I have right now. I think we are going to use a darker wood floor though.

Quartzite. It pricey though. It’s also pretty heavy. My island weighs 1100 lbs

Why do people think this is some labor intensive project?

Most decent sealers have 10yr warranty.

Natural stone-
Timeless
Lasts forever
Better polish
More maintenance
Stains without a good sealer

Quartz-
Who knows how long the trend will last
Looks plastic
Can’t handle heat or UV light (turns white quartz yellow)
No sealing/less maintenance
If anyone tells you quartz doesn’t stain draw all over it with a sharpie and let it sit overnight and let me know what happens

Nothing is perfect, but aesthetics matter.

IMO quartz is a basic building material. There’s a reason it goes in every home on the HGTV flip shows and that’s not because it’s a sought after material. It is mostly marketing. Building a custom kitchen spending well into the 5 figures and putting quartz on the counter to me is like building a million dollar home and filling it with ikea furniture.

In 10 years, people will have the same attitude about quartz as they do about builder grade granite currently.

We installed ~ 70 SqFt of granite (3 cm) in our kitchen 22 yrs ago and it still looks brand new. For sanitation, you use a cleanser. Hasn't been sealed since and only once at installation.

This is my biggest complaint with these women and selecting “trendy” materials they see on HGTV. People put these things in “flip houses” because they look presentable and are CHEAP.

Janky, what’s the issue with Dolomite? Marble, Dolomite, Quartzite, and Granite are all natural stones and resistant to the heat. You think the dolomite would be too soft?

Yes, it will be in the kitchen.
