Bit the bullet and bought the Firman Tri Fuel Generator from Costo. Fired it up and tested on Saturday. It was hard to start on propane (as the be expected). Any tips for starting it on propane?

I'm estimating it will run 6-7ish hours on propane under a decent load?

I'm probably not going to fill it with gas, unless needed in a long range outage. Any problems with this?

Make sure you got ALL the air out of the gas line, at the carb/intake. Just let the gas run till you smell it good.

It takes a while.

6 hours is about what I averaged on a 75% load.

This is the issue, 100%. The distance between the gasoline tank and the carburetor is about 3 inches. The distance for NG or LP is probably 25 feet. Take that into account and it should fire right up.

I bought mine when Ferrell came to fill my tank and they said the line I bought wouldn't work. They put a 3/8 parker LP Gas line on it.It worked fine.

Here is my question. The running wattage on natural gas is 5500. Is that enough to run 2, 110 window units and a refrigerator? I think it is, but maybe someone has done it? I’m going to purchase the tri fuel in the coming months.

That's on a 20 lb tank...the BBQ size?

Each of these devices should have a nameplate on it showing its max load (in amps or watts). You can sum up the wattage or multiply the amps times 120 if watts aren’t shown. Then sum it all up to get your total. Example (using random numbers):

HVAC: 1500 watts
Fridge: 5 amps
HVAC: 2000 watts

Total: 1500 + 2000 + (5*120) = 4100 watts

With a 4250 watt running generator, I ran refrigerator/freezer combo, 110 window unit, every electrical socket, mini fridge, 3 ceiling fans, 2 box fans, wifi, and my gas hot water heater.

Put 1-2 gallons of ethanol free gas in it with stabil. Start on the gas and then switch to propane or natural gas. Makes life easy.

I bought the dual fuel from Costco a few years ago. No complaints here. I'm adding the kit to run NG. The kit is $145. But the easy of natural gas is priceless! No more filling up eight 5 gallon gas cans for hurricanes anymore. I have 3 propane takes for my grill that if for some reason the gas gets cut off I can switch to. Or as a last resort take gas out of my truck to run the generator.

Just an FYI...most newer vehicles have anti-siphon devices in the gas filler line. You cannot get a regular siphon hose in it.

Folks might want to check this before relying on it for an emergency situation.
